AV for complete idiots???

I'm pretty new to AV, and was wondering if anyone had a link to a site that could give some insite to 5.1, 6.1, 7.1, DTS, etc...etc.
I was just looking for something to do surround front/rear/center (and maybe a sub). I'm already using a nait5 for stereo and would like to just add center rear speakers and some sort of processor receiver that would do the decoding and power the remaining 3 speakers.
