Nait 2

It's for a second system.
John
Well, I paid 1000,- Dutch Guilders (about 275 UKP)
for my first s/h Nait-2 (old-style) at a Naim dealer. Last year I bought a new-style Nait-2 from someone for only 500,- Dutch guilders (about 125 UKP!)
But...the prices for s/h Naits are rising lately.
You can find 'em at www.loot.com and there's also
an old-style Nait-2 for sale at www.springair.de
(German store specialized in s/h hifi gear)
Food luck with your search,
Greetings from Holland,
Alco.
B&W-302, Mission 760 (early model) or (in my case)
Monitor Audio Studio-2SE's or MA-1's
Some people told me that Linn Kan's also work very well with a Niat-2. I haven't tried that though.
Also the Royd bookshelf model seems to do fine with the little Nait-2
Good luck,
Greetings,
Alco.
I've just agreed a price on the Nait 2 - and I'm looking forward to it arriving. It's going to be a bedroom system for now, and I'm quite delighted at the prospect.
Does anyone have any surplus NACA5 they no longer need? Is there a minimum length for a Nait 2? (I recall something about this in a thread a while back).
I could do with maybe 3m each side, banana terminated if possible - how much will this cost? Also, assuming that the Nait won't come with any interconnects, where can I get an appropriate Phono connection -> Nait interconnect for a relatively low cost (I'd like to be able to set the entire second system up for around £300, source excluded - I'm paying £175 for the Nait 2, leaving me £125 for speakers and cabling - what options do I have? Any el-cheapo contenders in my price bracket?

I would scour the used adds for a few of the good but neglected speakers of that time.
Ones that spring to mind are the Royd Eden, though these may be a bit too Kan like for you. The Eden is an excellent loudspeaker. The cheaper Royd A7 is a surprisingly competent speaker. Both work great on Kan stands.
The Heybrook HB2 was a great all rounder, and capable of excellent results given the right source and amp - the Mk 1 is better than the Mk 2. Get the matching HBS1 stands.
An old pair of Mordant Short MS 20s would be a great match, these were a very competent design, and capable of a very musical performance.
The Linn Intro and Heybrook HB1 were never to my taste, but can both be picked up very cheaply. They were both liked at the time.
You could possibly find a pair of Rega Kytes on stands within your budget, these are a truly excellent loudspeaker, and like Kans or Edens would be just as happy on the end of a 52 / 135 combo. They are a newer design, so may have more mileage left on the clock. They will grow with any changes up stream.
Tony.
I sold my fully serviced old-style Nait 2 to a mate for £200 (sob, sniff, sniff). So it looks like you've made a good score.
3.5m minimum NACA5 length. You should find this used terminated for £20-£30 for around 5 metres... why not call a good dealer such as Audio Counsel, as they may have surplus used lengths of old NACA5 (as opposed to the new stuff) languising in the back room for a reasonable price?
Royd Minstrels, Arcam 2's, Royd A7's... there are loads of possibilities, and Tony's got most of them covered above.
Be sure to try it in your main system once it's well warmed up (say 2 weeks), and consider a service at Naim also (with mine it made a fat difference).
Rico - all your base are belong to us.

Arcam 2's,
I forgot about them, they were good. Its quite easy to forget, but Arcam (A&R Cambridge) used to be OK, the A60 was a excellent amp, as was the matching tuner. I would definitely take them over anything they make now.
The Arcam 2 was a smallish rear ported two way stand mount very like the Heybrook HB2, a little less lively perhaps but a great speaker all the same.

I use a pair of Goodmans Maxim 3 on the end of a Nait 1 and they're excellent.
They were also available with a Creek badge, but I don't remember the number. Visually they differed as the Creek had a green anodized tweeter as opposed to the Goodmans gold, and the Creek had a slightly reduced treble output, owing to a thicker tweeter dome.
They sound awesome when active!

I've not seen any of them around for a while but I hope this helps.

I bought this to use for a year while away from home with the promise from a friend to buy it off me when I left. I was so colossally blown away that when I got home I promptly sold my C-J gear and bought a used 102/hicap/psc/250 and never looked back, despite the financial insanity this was for me.
I dabble in country/bluegrass guitar. The impact of that system on my playing was as profound as that of any great artist on my playing. My timing finally became really good and locked in. And I finally started to follow harmony vocal lines correctly. I owe as much to that little system - particularly the Nait 2 as I do to Sonny and Brownie, Merle Haggard, The Stanley Bothers... I'm not being an airhead about this, I really owe a lot to that stereo - That's saying a lot for a hifi system, especially a small, cheap, dated one.
I had also owned the LS2's once before this and I should never have sold them. A really beautiful sounding speaker, and big sounding when placed right. I'm sure other Rogers from this era LS6, LS7 or Studio Ones or Spendors would mate real well. I bet a used pair of Spendor 2 series would be very nice and fairly easy to find.
As a last tought - I thought the aesthetics of a Nait 2 and teak LS2's was as harmonious as the sound, it was even pretty to look at. A very hip retro look.
