The Magic Numbers

Supporting Brian Wilson this summer. Their debut album is a beauty. Jangly guitars, vocals, harmonies, summer sound. The first CD I've bought for a while I want to play again as soon as it's finished.

They were superb on Jools Holland tonight.

I've been listening to this all week. I agree pretty much, although it does just run out of steam a bit. Have you caught the excellent bonus track after track 12 finishes?

If you enjoy this try the Hal album. very similar summer feel.

Bruce, How long do you need to leave the CD on for before the bonus track starts? becuase I have it & have not heard the bonus track!

I think a good 4 or 5 minutes. Just leave it to play.

It comes on at about 7 minutes 15 secs into the track. Pesonally I find this really irritating. I don't know why bands keep doing this. I was going to reburn it with this as a separate track but I thought that might degrade the sound. Oops! Wrong thread! Big Grin

The first time you find a hidden track I suppose you think 'nice surprise'. From then on it just irritates me!

I saw the M.Ns at the Camden Crawl a few months ago, they played a great set (marvellous melodica work). Have yet to buy the album however.

It is really good, perhaps a touch cloying overall but definitely the sound of the summer.

They do have a slightly twee edge to them... a melodica can go either way. But certainly more interesting than a lot of bands out there at the moment.

Wow.

Just picked this up yesterday and I think it is such a melodic and inviting album. Great playing, singing and production. Tasty recording as a nice bonus.

The only thing that pisses me off is that I missed them playing live at Glastonbury by about 20 minutes - a fantastic gig by all accounts.

Three full listens in and this album is already one of my favourites this year. Check out their web site for a listen - brilliant stuff IMO.

I guess i was one of the lucky ones, I saw them in the John Peel tent and they seriously stormed it! A real genuine class act combined with a good crowd who were really up for it. It was one of those moments when everything just came together..

I love the album, but it did on occasions go a bit too close to 'country sounding' for my normal tastes! Im sure others get this? but having seen the live act the CD sounds very different (for the better!) and the slight country sound doesnt bother me at all now.

Cheers

I bought their album recently on the back of their performance on the Jools Holland show and whilst it's a bit 'country' on occasions it's an unusual sound and never fails to engage.

Cheers,

I bought the album and thought excellent. However, I'm now pretty sure it's one of those that won't be played again after the initial few plays. Enjoyed it a little less with each listen.

I often find that music that seems accessible straight away quickly loses its appeal, whereas music that initially seems impenetrable can end up fascinating me for years...
