Mac Mini outputs to Supernait - an observation

Posted by: PBenny1066 on 23 May 2010

Have just been playing around experimenting with playing movies from Mac Mini into the TV, but with the sound signal being processed by the DAC of the S/N.

I have fitted HiFace, and use this all the time when playing music. But when playing movies, the sound is not in sync with the picture - about 1/2 second delay.

ButInterestingly.....switching back to optical digital out from Mac into the S/N cures the sync entirely.

I am sure this must tell me something about the digital signal processing, or paths - I just don't know what. Just thought I would share this with forum members.

Without doubt there is further processing going on through the highface, seems odd its a half second difference though, are you sure the movies are not AC3, 5.1 or something, in which case the highface I guess is processing hard to drop it down to PCM.

The playback software you use should be able to adjust for this.

I think it's telling you it takes about half a second.

It is something like 500 msec and probably nothing else just buffering.
