Sample Rates in iTunes

Posted by: Wazza69 on 04 February 2009

Hi all,

Sorry if this has been discussed before but I was wondering if there was a consensus on what sample rate is best in Audio MIDI setup on a Mac for replaying CD rips, 44100 Hz or 96000 Hz ? (assuming the use of 2ch 24bit)

I did read somewhere that Apple unofficially recommended one or the other for "bit perfect" playback.

I am using a Macbook Pro into a Beresford.

Thanks

Set it at the native sample rate - so 44.1 for ripped CD's. You need to restart iTunes each time you make a change in audio midi.

I second james n on using native sample rate (44.1K for ripped CD's).

My iTunes 8+ in OSX 10.5+ will change ample rates on-the-fly using the Audio-Midi utility. This is confirmed by changes in both the sound and the sample-rate indicator on my DAC. No restart of iTunes necessary.
