would you exchange a cd5 for a CDX?

Hi everyone out there. I am pondering upgrades and one way to upgrade my AV2 is to get a 202 for a pre and sell my cd5 w/hicap and get a CDX. Would the CDX be a big upgrade to the CD5 w/hicap. I would probably keep the hicap and put it on the 202! Thanks for any direction you can give me!!

Think of the CDX as a Jaguar Saloon and the CD5 as a pickup. Yes it is much better.

Tennispro,

yes, it WOULD be a big upgrade. Exactly like a CD2 would be.

CD5: a very nice sedan, especially if you add a Hi-Cap

CDX: a 500 Mercedes

CDSII: Jaguar

And if you're looking for pickup: that's the CD3

You think a jag is better than an E500 or S500 Benz? I think the E500 is one badass car. NO doubts about it. The Jag XJ8 is one sweet ride though, and if you mean the CDSII was one of those, I will agree Smile

I had a CD5/Flatcap2.

I also heard a CD5/Hi-cap.

I didn't sell the FC2 and buy a Hi-cap, I sold the lot and bought a CDX --- once I'd sorted my equipment suports.

The CDX reads what it sits on more so than the CD5, but get the support right, and the difference is massive in every area - dynamics, detail, timing, tune, soundstaging etc.

Tennispro,

Are you using the AV2 as your current preamp.

Going from CD5/Hi/AV2 to CDX/202/Hi/AV2 will be significant.

The CDX is a significantly better player then the CD5/FC2, haven't heard with HC. It sounds like your system is about to get a whole let better!

Decent support is strong advised with CDX.

cheers

PS Make sure you listen to 202 with digital supply NAPSC as this makes quite some difference (at least it does with the 102).

Is there a big difference between the CDX and the CDX2? Do you guys think that it would be worth shelling out twice as much money (2,000.00 to 4,000.00) for a CDX2?

Haven't heard the CDX2 but I would doubt the difference is that large, for the price of a new CDX2 you are ooking at a CDX with and XPS, I doubt the CDX2 is that good, I could be wrong!

Roger, Since you're seeking opinions on CD players, look at stereophile.com, in the archives section to see what Fremer, who actually has listened to both players, wrote about the CDX v the CD5.
BTW, the presentation differences between the olive style and the new series is significant.
