How do I record a Digibox programme on VCR?

Posted by: max in hampshire on 03 June 2005

Hi

I have just bought a Freeview receiver and for the life of me cannot set it/ the tv/the vcr in such a way as to be able to record to the VCR.

Anyone out there able to help - in very simple terms.

Thanks

when you are programming the video, you tell it which channel to record ie. BBC1, BBC2, ITV1 etc and these correspond to channels 1,2,3 etc on the video. The freeview box, if its plugged into a scart socket on the back of the video will be rcognized by the video as something like AV1 or AV2 (if you scroll down through the video channels, 3..2..1.. you usually then come to AV1 and AV2, depending on how many scart sockets you have on the video). So find out which socket the freeview box is plugged into and then programme it to record that channel (you vary what you actually record by which channel the freeview box is set to).
On reading this back it sounds a bit convoluted. Hope it gives you some idea of what to do.

Hi Kevin

Thanks for that. I have followed it and it works. I never knew I had an A1 A2 etc on the VCR.

Just as a follow up how would I set a timer or a video plus number?

if you're just recording 1 program then you set your digibox to the correct channel and set your vcr to record av1 at the appropriate time. If you want to record more than 1 channel then you have to set the timer in your digibox to change to the appropriate channel at some point between the 2 programs.

So for example you want to record
BBC1 8pm-9pm
ITV1 9pm-10pm
set your video to record av1 from 8pm to 10pm (I'd set 7:55 to 10:05 to be safe) and set your digibox to change to itv1 at 9pm. Leave your digibox on bbc1 when you're done. If you think someone may change channels on you while you're not looking then to be absolutely safe set your digibox to switch to bbc1 at 7:55.

well I did find an easier solution. I bought a digi tuner card for my pc and hooked the pc to my plasma screen. Now I can record with just a few clicks.
