If using a wireless touch panel with the HDX player's UI, the panel's browser must support Adobe Flash Player–at present, there is significant teeth-grinding between Adobe and Apple as to whether this will ever be available for the iPhone / iPod touch.
Anything is possible, however....
FWIW, I use a Nokia N800 (Linux-based, running 2008 firmware) to control the NS01 I am using at home (under Mozilla / Flash Player for Linux, installed by default). Older firmware versions utilized Opera as the browser.
I have tried the iPhone remote applet for iTunes control and found it quite usable, though I don't use iTunes that much beyond loading my iPod / iPhone.

Surely dave if the netstreams is the 'backroom' application and the naim interface the shop window, can't an application simply by pass the shop window?
For instance I have an appleTV which as the name implies you look at on the tv, however apple have just released remote control which allows me to control the music in itunes to play out of the appletv, meaning I don't need the TV on.
(A combination of ipod touch and appleTV is awesome BTW)
