Ever felt REALLY stupid - Wall Bracket Upgrade

Posted by: Mr Underhill on 31 March 2003

Well,

I moved into my present house about ten years ago. After about six months I set the HiFi up again and it seemed OK. Over the years though I just stopped listening to it as often. When I did the sound field always seemed to come from the left - rather than being centred - and this was really annoying.

Over the years I've tackled most areas of the system, cleaning contacts. getting my gear serviced, getting my ears syringed! The one thing I didn't adjust was the speakers. These were, and are, Kans. They sit on Sound Organisation wall brackets, and so there isn't a lot to do, is there? WRONG.

Over the last few days I've taken the speakers off the spikes and been playing around with the toe-in; and hasn't everything fallen into place!

Oh well, it ONLY took ten years.

I'm going back downstairs to listen to some music!

Well Homer, the phrase Doh! springs to mind Smile

If only because I recently had a very daft balance problem. Just got annoyed for a while then moved the balance knob, stereo still seemed misplaced at times but good enough.
Then I replaced my cabling with properly bannana plugged QED Silver Anniversay Bi-Wire (Not in a Naim system I hasten to add, still aspiring) and discovered a loose bare wire connection on the old cables.

Doh! That'll teach me to trust my ears! I have an OK system, if it doesn't sound right, something is wrong.
