NEED A REST
Posted by: scottyhammer on 15 December 2009
Just wanted to let all the friends that i have made on the forum over the last 6 yrs know that im taking an indefinate break as its just not the same anymore and i dont enjoy it as i did a while ago....its got nothing to do with certain posters or any single reason just the fact that i feel its gone flat and stale for me personally and im starting to bite with my replies and thats not right....it should be a pleasure not a chore.
So adios for now and merry xmas to all.
Scotty.

A load of grumpy old men and access to keyboards...it was always going to end in tears S.

It's not so serious, it's all for entertainment.
Enjoy your Christmas, I look forward to speaking with you again :-)

Don't post that much so would hardly qualify as a friend but I do read a lot and have often enjoyed your posts and find this last one very thoughtful. Reflection is good for all of us. Have a great Christmas.
Take care

I fear you may be right, it's a dangerous combination, and in the wrong hands who knows what might happen. Having said that, is it an oxymoron: Naim grumpy ??

I have more or less abandoned the HiFi forum, except for occasional reading, but the Music room has been extremely productive in every way.
All of the music I am listening to right now is courtesy of the Music Forum, and I consider these to be the jewels of my collection.
I look forward to reading the Music Forum every day, and am grateful for its existence.
There are no real outlets to discuss classical music locally, but the forum makes me feel like I am among friends who share a love of this music.
I would love to have a local Naim dealer to replace the HiFi forum. No substitute for hearing it yourself! In the meantime, the two pieces of equipment I bought on the forum's recommendations have been resounding successes (HiCap2 and NAP200) and for that I have much gratitude.
Next year, my LP12 is going to reap the benefits of participation in the forum, because of the generosity of spirit of a trade member who is a frequent poster, and willing to pick up a fussy out-of-town customer.
Even the arguments have been entertaining for the most part.
This leaves me saying "what's not to like".
The forum is a major hobby for me. Long live the forums!

You have started a mini trend here it seems and I will unashamedly jump on your bandwagon.
Over the last few years I have enjoyed particpating in what initially felt like a family - sure one that had squabbles from time to time but they always got over it.
Given that I was always a second cousin (twice removed) compared to the inner sanctum that believes it owns this place, I think that I will also take a break from this tiny corner of the web.
Like the others, it may be permanent and it may not and I will continue to be an admirer of Naim and their philosophy and I wish them and all of you well.
Over the last year or so I have found that I am posting more and more ascerbic replies and life is too short for me to worry about other peoples opinions on crap like hi-fi or their opinions about life, the universe and all that....it really is.
So, for now it's also time to join the ranks of the "departees" and take a leave of absence..permanent or otherwise and to wish you all a very Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year but more importantly peace and tranquility in your lives.

Take it steady bud, maybe having a break you might feel like coming back into the fold. I have a philosophy (stolen from another) which is Choose your battles. I don't always stick to it but it can help.
Come back soon
Have a good Xmas and new year
