CD's in cardboard sleeves
Posted by: zeke zebra on 18 October 2009
Am I alone in this or does anyone else dislike the cardboard folders that some CD’s come in? I just bought a few of the Beatles reissues and would much prefer it if they came in a more robust container. Some of my older CD’s that are in the cardboard sleeves are looking decidedly shabby.

Oh I much prefer the cardboard sleeves than tacky plastic.

Same here. I like carboard sleeves much better.

I think it is nice that some artists are putting value into the sleeves and inserts again with gatefolds and the like. I much prefer these to jewel case with just one resrevation-some of the cardboard ones are not the standard size and that is a bit awkward for storage in CD racks.
Mind you with the HDX mine just get hidden away now anyway!

The new Beatles covers certainly look nice but can't see them or the discs staying that way with regular use. So I'm going to swap them into the original jewel cases.

they are better for the environment and weigh less, so more economic to ship round the world!
but unless they have a 5mm spine they get a bit lost on the shelf i totally agree.
get paw prints all over em too getting em in and out.
they are actually a shed load more expensive than jewel cases. weird isn't it!

Quite interested in these inner sleeves munch. Is it acceptable to provide a pointer or does it infringe on forum rules.
I recently had to replace my copy of Kate Bush's 'Aerial' as there were a number of ultrafine scratches causing the occasional mis-read.
Quite like the ones that have the plastic CD holder in though.
Regards,
Steve

I love CDs in cardboard sleeves. If I come across a remaindered shelf, I always go through the cardboard ones first and are more tempted to buy them.
Jewel cases are ghastly.

At least they are replaceable, unlike printed paper sleeves, digi packs.

Funnily enough though, I find the quality of CD card sleeves / digipaks to be generally better than very many of those LP card sleeves which we don't complain about...

If they have the same amount of information as an LP sleeve, a bloody magnifying is needed to read them though!

Sorry to have been misleading inadvertently! I wasn't suggesting I prefer CD sleeves to LP sleeves, but rather that cardboard CD sleeves are no less durable than cardboard LP sleeves.

Me three. Much prefer the cardboard or digi-pack. I am astonished at how frequently the plastic jewel boxes are busted once you finally make it through the cellophane and stickers. I'm with Don - "ghastly".
(And the best packaging ever was Tom Waits' Brawlers, Bawlers and Bastards)

I tend to buy the Japanes version of any disc that comes in a Cardboard case. They usually make the sleeve bigger and also include a cloth style inner which is great for protecting the cd.
If I need to buy any I get them from cdjapan as they are dirt cheap. In this instance I take the cd out and put it into a cloth sleeve then in some jewel case sleeve protectors I have.
