HDX - Web Browser Interface
Posted by: busaganashi on 03 March 2009
Does anyone have any tips on getting Safari or Firefox on the MAC to run the HDX's web browser interface? I've typed in the "NSHDX4567/index.html?movie=fp.swf" and replaced the 4567 with my HDX's last four digits of its MAC address.
I basically get "Failed to Open Page"

Somewhere on the front panel of the hdx it will tell you its ethernet ip address put this ip address in place of the name of the HDX in the address line.

The manual says to use the last four of the MAC address which is on the back panel or can also be found in the System menu. I found the numbers and replaced them in the string provided in the manual, but it doesn't work.
Am I supposed to put all of the numbers or just the last four?

Tried all of the numbers and it doesn't work. I bet it's something simple that I'm missing.

Via Home screen , system status check the i p address it will appear eg 123.456.1.102
search for this as http://123.456.1.102 in your web browser, should find the hdx

The manual instructions are wrong. I called NANA and was told to ignore them, they only work under very limited conditions.
If you just enter the I.P. address listed under System Status, as David has said, it should work fine.

The reason for the echo, from my point of view, is that busaagashi kept at it; he didn't seem to realize that THE MANUAL IS WRONG. It took me a while to find that out, and it was quite annoying.

Sorry I assumed the manual was right, but looking back at everyone's posts I see what you were trying to tell me Garyi.
I've another problem now, trying to get the HDX to see my shared drives on the macs. Any help there?

Who wrote the manual....?

In all fairness, the reference in the manual works on IE on Windows, but is insufficient on most other platforms. IP addresses are better and more platform-independent.

Busaganashi.
To see your shared drives do the following:
Goto system prefs>sharing>filesharing
In advanced or more options turn on SMB sharing
Back in file sharing click on add where you see 'public folder'
navigate to the folders you wish to share and add them to the list.
Give it say 10 mins to start broadcasting.
Your had will now see them as a shares.

Just in case I'm not the only who didn't know this, there is a difference visually between just entering your http://your-IP and http://your-IP/index.html?movie=fp.swf

New to me!
index.html?movie=fp.swf is much larger font, likely better for viewing on small screens like ipod touch, a bit in your face on 13" laptop

Yeah, but the browser interface doesn't work on an iPod Touch, due to no Flash...
