Lambchop 'Damaged'
Posted by: Bruce Woodhouse on 16 August 2006
I've had a slightly on/off relationship with 'Chop, not least after having the misfortune of seeing them in a woeful live performance but 'Damaged' out this week is a return. I've had it on continously for 3 days!
Intimate and subtle in the style of 'Is A Woman' but with richer instrumentation it is one of those albums that has no single magical moment but delivers as a consistent whole. The lyrics are great, a fact helped by them being printed in the booklet (a Lambchop first?).
As the book of review cliches says, 'fans will love it, newcomers might be won over'.
Anyone else got it yet?

No, I haven't kept up with them since Is A Woman.
How does it compare with Nixon?

Everyone keeps on banging on about this Lambchop lot. I've got no idea what they sound like. Can anyone give me a heads up on them? Sounds a bit like a cross between *** with a bit of an ^^^ influence, etc. Thanks in advance,
matt.

You've got it in a nutshell. If *** = Curtis Mayfield and ^^^ = George Jones. Add a little Giant Sand, Ry Cooder and Lou Reed and you've got one of the best damn bands in the world.
I've said it on this forum more than once in the past, but the world is divided into those with 'Nixon' and those without, and the have nots lives are just a little bit poorer for it.

No brass section but some of the richer 'band' sound of 'Nixon'. Strings and some slide guitar. I'd say it is like a more up-tempo 'Is A Woman' and like that album the mood and style is fairly uniform.
Manicatel-difficult one. Best to check out some samples I think, the City Slang label website has a track from the new album
here and some info

Bruce & Malky,
Thanks for the info, I've just bought Nixon from Amazon for a fiver.
Cheers, matt.

Rarely will a fiver be better spent.

just read the review in UNCUT which gives it 4 stars and notes it as a break up album. I've never really got Lambchop from single tracks usually on UNCUT freebies, maybe a whole album lets it flow better. I too will have a bash at NIXON and take it from there.
