AV-2 questions.

Posted by: Jack Dotson on 28 May 2006

My system consist of a Naim CD5i CDP, Sony SACD DVDP, Arcam AVP-700 pre-processor, Outlaw five channel amp, a couple of LDP's, and a VCR.

I have plenty of inputs on my TV to control my video sources, so I was wanting to get your thoughts about replacing my AVP-700 with the Naim AV-2.

Will it support all my components and is it compatible with non Naim amps? Also, first and formost my primary interest is in music. How is the AV-2 in this regard?

I realize I can use it in conjunction with a stereo set-up, but I'd like to use my pre-procesor for HT and music as I do now.

Thanks,

Well I guess I'll take no responses to mean that no one uses this as a stand alone pre-amp/processor.

Hi JAck,

I think the AV2 is really designed to slot into an existing Naim 2 channel system, so i dont think that it will.

However, check out this link about the AV2 Manual and it may give you some ideas:

Hi Jack

Use my AV2 with Naim amps personally but I can't see a problem with using one as with another amplifer. You might need some special din to rca cables, have a chat to your dealer about that one.

The AV2 is great by the way. I know a lot of folks appear to be changing them for nVi's, and I can see the attraction on the convenience and box count side, but for pre-amp performance it's an AV2.

It will work fine, you'll just need some Naim DIN to phono leads made up. For a short period of time I ran some Arcam Alpha 10 amps off my AV2 with mo problems at all.
