DV XX2
Posted by: ken c on 14 August 2001
i think mine is getting close to being fully run in now, and my word, its becoming even more special. some records of mine (e.g van morrison "cleaning windows") that used to be too splashy and with too much background noise, are now eminently playable and very enjoyable.
i cant say the same about my copy of bob dylan's "desire" which i bought when i was a student and was severely abused -- hence my question in another thread as to where i could get a good pressing of this.

I'll be taking a listen to a XX-2 vs a Helikon LE soon. Then one way the other we'll be able to talk analogue. Lets hope for my bank account's sake things don't take a turn for the worse and I get to hear a XV-1! That could be bad news.
i gather the XV-1 is even more special than the XX2 (i havent listened to it) -- so, using your terminology, i hope things turn out for the "worse"

Sorry to hear that Ken!
The xx-2 is no doubt fantastic but beyond my budget, and it is not v public spirited to try to make other forum users envious of your equipment.
I have however recently purchased a new DV-20X L which is presently giving me unadulterated pleasure - which is not to be confused with adult-rated pleasure.
Musically it wipes the floor with my old Denon 304, and tonally it seems much better suited to Naim amplification and speakers, although I had been happy with the Denon.
Now I'm v happy and I'm buying vinyl again.

oooops!!! been found out.

some symphathy, at last!!! for the record i mean, ha ha ha.
surely serious record playing beings with a full naimed lp12 (prefix, geddon, aro, XX2) without that, its simply child's play, right?
un-adult-rated pleasure -- ah, now i know what the "X" is those DV cartridges stands for...
and therefore why the XX2 is double special...

If you only want to play "serious" records how can you have fun and....enjoy?!!
I have to admit that having listened again I am tempted to change my Lingo for a geddon (although it's not really a cost effective change), but I'm more than ever convinced that I'm not an aro person - much as I admire it.
Jeremy
With the usual caveat that I've just spent my money so I'm not got to say I hate it...!
I got the DV-20 XL on Saturday and as you will have gathered I am very impressed with it.
So far every record that I've listened to at home just sounds better than ever in my system. Although I have used a Troika in the past my amps and speakers are better now - in particular an 82 rather than 42.5 in my view - but I am hearing things I haven't heard before and the music flows beautifully.
I had been reluctant to invest in a cartridge as i had been buying most new music on cd, but my cd player has been idle since Saturday.
I have tried a diverse range of music. I had been told the the 20 does not suit rock but I much prefer it to the Denon 304 on rock as well - although that's probably not surprising as the the Denon is a very neutral "bbc" cartridge, if you know what I mean.
I also listened to the DV10 which was ok, but not for me.
Downside? So far only that the depth of the cartridge body means that my ekos is raised higher and if you just rest the arm on the arm rest (as opposed to securing it - I'm sure Linn arm users will know what I mean), if you close the lid it just touches the finger lift!!
Chris
(sorry missed the above post)
i can have serious fun, enjoyably, cant i??

ah, thats a chink in your armour. man, if you get a geddon, the aro will be a very natural next step. you will not be able to resist any more. second hand geddon???

chris, get a proper arm -- the aro - you will none of these, err, problems?!!!
enjoy (seriously)

2. I've been noticing that it takes a bit of time for the cartridge to warm up, "rings" a bit at first and then settles in nicely after an hour or so (no, I don't own a blow dryer). Mine is still breaking in, with under twenty hours' use (three or four sittings--been busy this month).
3. The XX-2 is significantly lighter and has a shorter mounting-hole to stylus distance, which makes a pretty big difference in setup (on an ARO) between the two cartridges.
Have I missed something?

4. The XX-2 has an Alnico magnet, the XX-1L does not.
5. The XX-2 is partially nekid, the XX-1L is fully clothed.
6. Vuk has an XX-2 on his P9, I have an XX-1L on my P9.

P.S. Dave, how do they compare musically?
ah, you hit the nail on the head, again...
joe, i blame you for all the good time i am having with the XX2.
and my t/t is still on the humble audiotech floor table.

Heading Dallas way anytime shortly? Once you've heard a well set up XV-1....
The offer is open.
