Calling 52 users

Hi
Recieved back my 52 from service 3weeks ago(new pot board as well)
I have owned a 32/42.5/72/82
The 52 is the first one that doesn't fully mute when the vol is turned to 0. Music is still audible (but very quiet obviously) from 5m away(room size).
Also at zero a very bizarre thing happens at this vol with the balance knob--Turn it 30% towards channel 1 and channel 2 becomes immediately louder--turn further and channel1 eventual dominates and channel 2 switches off completly as it should.
The reverse is also true in the channel 2 direction.
This control works normally at 'listening' volumes
Confused???
Is this normal? do yours do this? the 72 I still has doesn't in my system. I'd hate to think I'm loosing performance with a slight component problem.
I'm using CDS active 250's in to SBL's
Thanks Richard

Richard,
I have exactly the same on my 52 which I purchased secondhand from a dealer having had a service a pot board upgrade about 2 weeks ago. I had noticed the volume not fully decreasing but not the balance thing.
Come on administrator let us know what to do.

Richard, I don't have a 52 but my 102 does this too. The mute button kills the volume, but turning the volume pot all the way down still leaves music just about audible.
Don't know about the other stuff??

Richard,
I have an early 52 that I have had for 6-7 yrs. I bought it second hand so it has been around. I had it serviced when I first had it and it was fine. Sometime in "02" I started to have the same problem with the volume pot, at "zero". I still had sound though I think mute "on" muted it completely. Anyway, I had to have it "refurbed" and mentioned the problem. I thought I was due for a new vol. pot. which are not cheap. I was told that they would shorten the wires of the vol. pot. and that the problem was due to the high outputs of CD players tuners, etc. Hmmm! I had the problem with my analog input stage as well which uses the "S" boards. So- now it's fine again. But I am still confused as to why it suddenly appeared as a problem in the first place.
Actually, I have a rather long involved story, which was recently solved after 3 years of total frustration, regarding this 52 and a humm problem with my analog gear if anyone is interested.

It is the strange behaviour with the balance control that concerns me a little not so much the zero volume issue. I guess a phone call to Naim may be in order. Providing there is no loss of performance or long term issues then I'd be happy to live with the characteristics.

Hi
Thanks for the feedback.
Spoke to Mark at Naim, and as always he was incredibly helpful. It always amazes me how interested and thoughtful the staff are at Naim without fail.
It seems the balance phenomenon is something that is within design tolerances, but is rarely audible(mine is only at just audible volumes only).
More importantly it has no significant effect on performance
Regards Richard
