Royd doublet problem?

Yesterday while having a peek under the grill cover of my doublets I was alarmed to notice that the soft rubber drivers are leaving a black smudge on my finger when I touched them. It is almost like they are deteriating-I dont think they were doing this before. should I be concerned?

Currently the above link is not working, but once it comes back to life, you can find an article on Minstrel and/or Doublet which indicates each driver has 2 polymer gluey adhesive type stuff on it, for stiffening and other clever audio stuff.

On my Minstrels the stuff near the middle is still 'sticky'/'tacky' after 5 years! If you're worried give Royd a call (they're in Telford, UK but I don't have their number to hand)
