Suffolk murders
Posted by: Rasher on 13 December 2006
I don't get it. Ipswich red light district is what, 2-3 streets? I don't understand how 5 girls can be murdered over a short period without the police being to be able to catch the killer. They know the killer will operate within these streets right now, and they know who the targets are. There are probably 45 girls at risk there at a guess. How difficult can it be to look after them?
I think it was the Torygraph that said this week that Suffolk police are the least capable force in the country to deal with a major incident. Why are they not immediately bringing in assistance from the forces that caught the Yorkshire Ripper & Ian Huntley? I would have thought that would be the first thing they would do. This is another cock-up (pun unintended).
It'll be the usual suspect: known sex offender/murderer released back into the community 3 months ago.

Quite. There must be a joke in there somewhere. Possibly a pley on words?
I was amazed that they'd brought in the Gloucester police chief who was in charge of the Fred West investigation. Seems he was very keen to pass on the 'learnings' from that case. Trouble is, it took them 20 years to start investigating it... and at the time there were rumours of police corruption and involvement...

The problem is that (another Rasher sweeping generalising unfounded statement coming up, Fritz) many members of our police force are really not all that bright.
Just heard on the radio in an interview with chief detective inspector "the killer appears to be targeting sex workers in the area".
Okay, good work, keep it up. I love the way they speak in a very slow Mr Bean voice too.

I agree with rasher, so few are bright. How many times do we see senior detectives interviewed on the box who cant string a few words together in a coherent manner - if those are the ones chosen to give statements on camera what must the other 'officers' be like?
Why are constables called 'officers' at all? Young junior army officers interviewed on the box even those in wars zones sound bright and articulate whereas policemen sound like thick common criminals imo.

I heard on the radio during the mid-day news "The fifth body has now been identified as the missing girl. We are treating it as murder".
Wow, clever!

Perhaps some of you smart-arses should tell the police how it should be done then?

We would be calling them bigger idiots if they announced she was murdered immediately she was found and then turned out to be wrong. The issue is more with the incessant appetite of the media for continous banal updates than the police spokesperson. Being highly trained as a media presenter is not what I want the police to concentrate on. After all, looking at that oleaginous (but articulate) idiot that Mohammed Al-Fayed uses as his spokesman.

Rasher/acad:
Do you actually think the press will be told anything other than generalistic comments at this stage?
Please!
and
= no evidence to back up your sweeping etc statement.

Of course not. I'm just an idiot on an internet forum, and while I'm here I'll behave like one.
I've read my Michael Connelly & Ian Rankin books on how it should be done. We need an alcoholic burnt out detective with a reputation for working outside what is considered to be proper police limits, and always on semi-suspension.
Seriously though, I hear that we shouldn't expect an early arrest. Where does that leave the poor girls that are still working out there!
I know the police are doing the best they can, but previous investigations of this type have since been found to be full of holes and the killer should have been identified much earlier. It's just frustrating.

'Net tightening' on murder suspects
Police hunting the killer of five prostitutes say they are tightening the net around a series of suspects... etc.

You are treading on very dangerous ground there rasher, the police will only tell the media what the police want them to know.
Rest assured there is more going on than you and I realise. Take a step back and leave it to them they know what they are doing.

Overheard in a magistrates court years ago when I was studying the British legal system.
PC Plod - '..whereupon the accused kicked me in the testiculars'
Magistrate - 'testiculars?'
PC Plod - 'Yes Sir, both testiculars'.

Just heard on the wireless that one of the murdered girls was pregnant. What a sad, f****d-up world it seems to be.

Indeed. Parts of the UK gets more like parts of America everyday. A society is judged by its most vulnerable members maybe? How many and how vulnerable and how they are protected?

Did he give himself up then?
Posted on: 18 December 2006 by Rasher
Great development. Reports say that they investigated him over a month ago. Yeah, I might be on dodgy ground here but we see it over and over again.

No-one bothered about this, then?
I feel that this is just but a stones throw away from trial by mass circulation media. I watched two talking heads on iirc NewsNight and wondered just how this chap had been protected by the process of the law and started thinking just where in the land this chap if ever charged could expect a fair trial. The BBC put up somethinhg like the public should or need to know about this interview but I'm not too sure about it after all has this chap whilst being questioned by the police did he have any say in what is said about him by the media?

And now another..

Living in Ipswich has not been the greatest place to be recently (especially as the wife was out in Sheffield the night the Yorkshire Ripper was caught, so she has been understandably subdued), and watching / reading everyones own views / thoughts (and I don't mean just here) has at times been quite comical to say the least!
I hope the police have got their man / men otherwise I can see people relaxing and something terrible happening to another.

Seems to me that this guy went out of his way to be arrested; why remains to be seen.
