Nitin Sawhney-Human

Just too good to risk losing in the 'Last record you bought' thread. His 'Beyond Skin' is still one of my favourite albums in the last few years but this may better it. Effortless fusion of styles and quality vocals in particular. A more gentle soulful mood than 'Prophesy'.

A big 'five head' score!

I am looking forward to getting it, Beyond Skin is one of my favourities, and I liked Displacing the Skin and Prophesy. Nitin is a good friend of my wifes but I don't get a free copy Frown

I very much like 'Beyond Skin' and 'Prohesy' so this is a must have then I guess.

Bought 'beyond skin' a little while ago on a whim and although it is good in places I found it a bit to worthy and worldy for me. He is obviously a very talented guy but his music leaves me cold.

Thanks Bruce - I just picked up "Beyond Skin" in the HMV sale (only GBP7 too Wink) on the strength of your recommendation - looks like I'll have to check out the rest of his albums too now Smile

Anybody who is enjoying this might like to try Susheela Raman-Love Trap. Better than Salt Rain overall although also a bit uneven. Still good though.

Ok, on a search found this thread on Nitin Sawhney. I see there are differing opinions (As usual). Which Cd would you start off with & why?
Is it as the reviewers say - world music or is he up to a little more than that?

Ta for any replies...

Patrick,
i sometimes find some music labelled 'world music' a little lacking in direction.
I was just wondering what forum members thought of his cd's...

Along similar lines try Talvin Singh's Mercury winner-'OK'.

It's rhythmic and percussive, with an indian vocal feel, and Nitin's a good keyboard player too.

Just a point for those unaware. The vocals are provided by a variety of guests, Nitin provides the music and writes the songs/arrangements. This does mean he gets appropriate voices for the particular piece and is not limited by his own.
