The Cricket World Cup

You didn't think I'd forget, did you?!!!

England have been making heavy weather to start off with against Bermuda, but it should all be over soon.

Given the recent successes of the New Zealand team, I can confidently predict that, just like the All Blacks World Cup Team, the cricket team will win every game until the semi-final - then lose.

You're first up for us, Deane, on March 16th. I don't foresee too many problems for England there Winker. Our next warm up game will be slightly tougher than today - we play the Aussies on Friday.

The Aussies - yesterday's news!! Winker
As a cricket-mad optimist I look forward to a fantastically successful World Cup for England. If only my optimism was ever converted to reality.........

For you Ian!

Any idea why England play 2 games in 3 days and then play the next game 6 days later? Surely they could have been spaced out evenly?

Probably as the two games are only against New Zealand and then Canada, it gives us the opportunity to get some rest in before we tackle Kenya! Big Grin

There were rumours of extra 'warm-up' games!

Great victory over Bermuda - lets hope this is the shape of things to come.

I thought "spaced out" was only used in the context of West Ham players. Whoops. Wrong thread! Though in their day both Gower and Botham were alleged to have used certain herbal remedies to induce space outness.

New Zealand beaten by Bangladesh (yes, Bangladesh) by two wickets. I think the team should come home now.

Normal service etc etc.

A good start for the hosts against Pakistan.

It looks as though Anderson is out for England's first test against New Zealand on Friday, which is a shame as he is probably the best of Englands fast bowlers other than Freddy.

Who are people's favourites as eventual winners? I think South Africa look a good bet.

Oh, plop!

Oh well - perhaps we'll get better; good knock by Nixon.

New Zealand played very well.

Yes a great victory for the Blarney Army.

I'm also shocked about Bob W. He was a great mainstay in the England team in the 1970s. I think he was in the historic Centenary Test in 1977 (Melbourne).

Indeed he was. Opened the batting with Mike Brearley, scored 9 & 12.

David Hookes also made his test debut for Australia in that match.
