DVD5 + AV2 = "pop" from right speaker

Posted by: GreenAlex on 08 August 2010

Hello everyone Smile

I was listening to a whole bunch of my CDs through my Naim and I noticed that everytime I opened and closed the DVD5's tray I got two short "pop" sounds from my right speaker.

I'm not exactly sure when it started because I didn't really pay enough attention to it because I was sitting closer to the right speaker and didn't notice it was only coming from one side.

It's basically the same "pop" you get when the DVD5 switches the input of the AV2 and the AV2 locks onto a signal.
But the AV2 is already set to "CD" and there is no input change and it's only on one speaker.

I ruled out the speaker itself, the NACA5, the NAP200. All that is left is the DVD5 and AV2.

It only occurs through the interconnect, not through the DC1.

I wondered if anyone else had ever encountered this kind of thing and maybe knew how to solve it?
Or should I contact my dealer to have my DVD5 sent away?

Thanks for your help and enjoy your music...oh, and of course movies Big Grin

Hi - like your new username for this forum. Smile

Sorry that nobody seems to be helping so far. My next suggestion is to refer your problem to Naim support (support@naimaudio.com IIRC). Alas, they are on holiday this week.

Have you tried this with any screen or set-top box disconnected from either the DVD5 or AV2? Just a hunch it could be some kind of strange earth issue...

Otherwise, get in touch with your dealer or e-mail Naim.

Hi Richard,
I made sure it wasn't an earthing issue.

I removed any connection between my DVD5 and my tv/set-top etc. and I only have an optical connection from my AV2 to the set-top box.
I also tried switching the speaker cables and also hooked up my front speakers to my NAPv175 to make sure it wasn't the NAP200.

Result is, that it's always only on the right channel (right channel of the source, i.e. left speaker if I switch cables).

I haven't tried resetting it all, yet. Not sure if there is any point in trying that? Would mean setting it all up again Big Grin

edit:
Of course I also disconnected the subwoofers Smile
