Browsing CD's at a website....

and seen the Beatles box sets. Remembering last year when they were anywhere from $200-$400 per set and today are selling for $125. I'm glad I waited!

That's because itunes are now selling them at that price and the Amazon's etc of this world are keeping up with the itunes price. Who would buy from itunes when you can get the proper box at that price. Still, maybe I should have waited as well, hardly touched mine since they came out.

I remember the mono box set was supposed to be limited to 10,000 copies. Now EMI has kept making them and the price has dropped to a more realistic level. One for the OFT I feel. USB was also released shortly after without mention of it when the limited box was available. Bah!

I posted this back in February .....

Give it a couple of years and the mono's will be available individually. I remember back in the mid-late 70's buying the vinyl box set that came with a "Rarities" LP, "available only with the box set". Within 12 months the Rarities LP was on sale on its own.

Remember - EMI need the money

Isn't that so often the case with box sets? You get them, they look cool, you marvel at the packaging, read some of the essays, listen to some of the music, maybe even listen to everything at least once, feel really chuffed that you have something so special and promise to take the time to genuinely appreciate its true value at a later date....

Been getting my moeny's worth out of the new Springsteen set though Big Grin

Well said King Size. I am guilty as charged but it's also why some of the anti-cd vinyl nostalgia doesn't ring true for me. Nice to read covers etc. but really some nice art work and a track listing is all you need with maybe access to the lyrics.

To contradict myself for a moment - When download hardware quality matches the alleged quality of the downloads in the way cd players eventually caught up I will still hesitate as, for me, someone still needs to crack the art work and lyrics thing.

For now i'm firmly in the 'non download' camp - much prefer buying the physical product, whether it be CD or LP. I do think that, at this point in time, there is a 'utopianism' about downloads that will soon fade when the reality sets in. I'm not saying its not part of the future but i think that, for now at least, the audiophile nirvana of hi-res downloads streaming down a pipe into your living room is a long way off.

As an aside, I was sort of disappointed that the download voucher I received with 'The Promise' LP set wouldn't work as I wasn't in the USA. Luckily the box set followed a week later.

Unfortunately amazon.uk has not matched that great offer but I might pick up another mono box when I'm in the US.
