nDAC power up sequence...

Posted by: a.diabelli on 08 November 2010

Hi,

can someone one please tell me what it's the right light sequence powering up a DAC?

Mine starts blinking alternately sync and hd lights and later blinks the main buttons five times the most of the times, only rarely it sticks on the last input selected directly.

Anyway, I'm almost sure that my new brand DAC is faulty, it goes out of sync playing files from a digital source after 30/45 seconds, it mutes itself for a second and then plays with sync light off.
If I swap the input to a mute input (let's say number 2) and then come back to the first it syncs and lost sync
after the usual 30 seconds...
It works well only with usb stick playing WAVs.
At first I thought it was a problem of the brand new HiFace Evo I bought at the same time, but now I'm trying a new squeezebox touch and the problem is always here. I was able to make it working well only one time, when it sat on a temporary table, when I power down it and put it back on the rack the problem arises again.
I've tried the usual checks:
. swapped snaic cable with the one from my CD5i
. tried both BNC and RCA cable
. swapped chassis and floating
. changed the main power cable

Any further ideas?
I've bought it directly from uk with the help of a friend who lives there so shipping it back to the reseller it's not so easy (it was not a good idea, first and last time I try to save some money, I swear...)

Sorry for my bad english...

Thanks,
Marco

When I power up I get the sync and hd lights flashing alternately then the sync and selection button 1 remain constantly lit.

I also use an Evo. I sometimes power it from a 9v linear supply but for serious listening I use the lithium battery. When I am using the cheap 9v linear supply the sync light will sometimes go out although the DAC remains fully operational. This happened both before and after I upgrade to release 65 firmware. The plug that goes into the Evo from the 9v linear supply seems to have a less than ideal connection. The slightest movement of the plug or lead will cause the sync light to go off. This can always be cured by taking out the plug and putting it back in again. The 9v linear supply came from a large UK electrical retailer and it was supplied with plugs of differing sizes to suit a range of inputs. I think that the connection on the 9v linear supply is less than ideal and this is causing a problem.

I would suggest that you email Keith Cooper at Purite Audio (UK importer for M2Tech) about the problem. He will not be able to advise on the nDAC will you will get excellent backup on your Evo.

Keith's email address is:

puriteaudio@btinternet.com

Hope you get the problem solved

Thanks for the feedback Doctor, I wrote about this problem in your thread "M2Tech Evo - First Impressions" too, at that time I thought too that the guilty should be the Hi Face but now I'm almost sure that the problem is in the nDAC, since I've tried it with squeezebox touch and the out of sync problem raises again.

Still I can't understand why is working properly with USB stick and how it was possible that one time (and only one...) it works without problems.

Let's see if someone else can point me into some direction before returning it to uk...

I'm feeling down, sometimes I think that "less is more" (less techonology more happiness...)

Have you tried the firmware upgrade - https://forums.naimaudio.com/ev...2903417/m/4192906537

Not yet... I've thought about it but I didn't want to get things worse (probably I'm too paranoid...)

Hi Oceanis, I'll write today, how they fixed it? With a firmaware upgrade?

Okay, Steven Hopkins confirmed me that my unit is faulty, needs to be serviced.
We can say that if you DAC boots with the main buttons flashing you have a problem...
