Thanks to Nick Lees

This holiday weekend, there was a 4-day music and arts festival in Seattle. My friends and I attended today, and thanks to an album recommendation by Nick Lees, we rushed to see Karsh Kale at 1:30 PM. Wow. Excellent, excellent percussionist is Karsh Kale, and his band was wonderful. They blended some traditional Indian singing, mellow electronic backgrounds, and energetic bursts of cymbals, drumming, and guitar. They can also jam. My friends and I will all be buying his latest album. Thanks again for the heads up Nick.

We also saw the following today...
New Pornographers- Terrible venue that bounced the sound around so you couldn't understand a word, but the band seemed extremely skilled and tight nonetheless.
The Long Winters- Their venue was a much more friendly environment, but I would also say they matched the New Pornographers.
Sugarman 3 w/ guest, Lee Fields- Jesus, I thought it was 1968 and I was seeing James Brown. Lee was entertaining, but maybe a bit too much of a James Brown impersonator (jerry curls, royal blue pants, Brown-like dancing. The band was great.
Sharon Jones and The Dap Kings- Wonderful funk performance. A bit more relaxed than Sugarman 3, although the warm up and introduction of Jones was very playful. Sharon is a great performer live, and has a hell of a voice.
Unfortunately we dicked around too much and ended up missing Wilco. But there was beer.
