LP12 signal cable
Posted by: Dobbin on 21 January 2003
I've recently got some new kit and am using a linto as my phono stage - connected to my 252. However my linto and lingo are currently languishing on a cardboard box (containing a Kenwood car audio head unit no less!!) I'd like to make the cable from the LP12 longer.
Anyone done this - is length optimised??

Dobbin,
I investigated this a while back and Linn do a longer cable which is pretty expensive. My dealer made one up for me from Aro cable and I've had no problems at all. As I understand it it is a good idea to keep the phono signal cable short as it's a pretty weak signal and also RFI can be an issue but as I said I've had no problems.
Cheers,
Calum

Surely it would be much better to put the Linto near the deck & make the cable from that to preamp longer?
The signals from a cartridge are very small and easily corrupted...

great point, Martin.
I installed (only once) the 'long' linn armlead and it killed the music.
IIRC it was a lp12/valhalla/ittok/karma/
42.5/hicap/250/kef 104.2s.
cheers,

Dobbin:
Your dealer might be able to make a custom length of cable for the Linto to 252 interconnect. Graham's in London can do this with the Linn "Silver" interconnect and with appropriate connectors at each end. I am using one of these.
It is probably not wise to lengthen the arm cable to the Linto.
