The NZ S.P.C.A.

I may be overly cynical here, but the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has earned itself some great publicity for the Xmas holidays by saving a very badly brutalised dog from almost certain death and nursing it back to health at great cost. The poor dog is covered in scars and fresh wounds. I know this because it's been on the evening news more than once.

What troubles me is that nursing these innocent victims of cruelty back to health is not the usual course taken by the S.P.C.A. I suspect that the poor creature would normally have been euthanased by the Society, as are thousands of other animals throughout the course of the year who suffer nothing more than abandonment. I feel that engendering sympathy this way right on the Xmas holidays, with the purpose of raising funds by way of donations, is misrepresentation at best.

I can see what you're saying Dean but don't the animals benefit in the end?

I know it's a little manipulative but sometimes you need stories like these to really break through the clutter and crap of everyday life.
