Linn Ninka
Posted by: Mats S on 16 December 2002
Linn Ninka was the last speaker I brought home to try out with my Naim system. If there are perfect musical marriages, this must be one of them. Plenty of bass, but never overblown. Treble is clear and sweet. Outstanding rythm and an excellent, huge soundstage. The latter came as a suprise. And the best is I only spent 1000 although my budget was 1500! I've cancelled all meetings with my HI-FI shrink. He says I'll be back, though.

Good choice Mats. Ninkas are easily the best speakers I've heard for the money (and a lot more).

I have to agree, I bought a set a few weeks ago. They weren't what I expected to take home, but they seem to work a treat with a 140. Now I need to get the granite bases,

I've had a set of ninkas since spring. They work wonderfully in my room/system. Took forever to run in (like three or four months.) The "optional" bases really aren't, make all the difference. Enjoy them!

Anyone tried the ninka with a 90? Please share experiences.

I use ninkas with a 32.5/90 and they sound great to me. I have a fairly small room - 13' X 14' plus a bay window on the short side.

I'll take your advice, Liquidken, and upgrade sooon with the Polymer stand.

Glad you liked the Ninkas.
I guess that I'm in the minority here then, as I've heard them twice recently, once on the back end of a Linn system, once on the back end of a Naim system. Didn't like them either time, but, that's personal preference.
They certainly did detail very well, but I felt the soundstage could be improved and considered the bass a little light when compared to my existing Linn speakers.
So, another classic case of different people liking different things from their system.
Keep on rocking guys.

My wife bought me the polymer bases as a Christmas present, all I can say is that they are a very significant improvement. If you have Ninkas and they are on the original bases then beg, borrow or steal the money to upgrade the bases!

Is there anybody who has an idea where the Ninka stands in the Linn hierarchy - except that it sounds pretty good?
It's the successor to the Keilidhs, with significant improvements, right?
But where does it stand compared to the Kabers - not quite the same level?

How are the Ninkas as compared to Neat speakers, particularly the Petite III - has anyone done the comparison.
I love my Neats but am wondering whether they might be the weakest link in my system - which has moved on a fair bit since I first acquired my Petite/Gravitas.

Herm,
As already mentioned, I really didn't like the Ninkas, just didn't do it for me at all.
Having said that, I liked the Keilidhs a lot, and found them very musical, if not very good in the "hi-fi" area.
I now have a pair of Kabers, which I believe will easy show a clean pair of heals to both the Ks and Ninkas.

I've had a pair of Ninka's for the past 2 years with a Nait5, Flatcap2, CD5, LP12 and a Tom Evans Microgroove. Since I bought the system I haven't even looked at a Hi-Fi magazine but after just looking through this forum I realise the Nait5 is not powerful enough to drive my Ninka's as I'm having the volume turned up between 1 - 2 o'clock to listen at a decent level so I'm looking at buying the new NAP200. Does everyone agree that this is the right step forward?.
P.S I wouldn't dream of changeing the Ninka's!....

I have a Nait 5 powering my Kabers, and I've also been told it's underpowered.
I had a dem recently that included a move to a 200. Simple summary, AWESOME! Definitely a good use of cash. If you're going to move to a 200, make sure you also go for an updated pre-amp too as even the 112 is a VERY noticeable improvement on the Nait (I tried that as part of the dem). Infact I'd say that changing to the 112 was at least as big an improvement as moving to the power amp. Bearing in mind that the Nait has a strong second hand value, shouldn't cost you more than a couple of hundred for a 112.

Follow your ears, If you listen that loudly you may need more amplification. But I believe that you will still be turning it up to the 1-2 o'clock position with the 200 as the gain on Naim amps are the same. I would follow your ears and bring a 200 home, it is the logical choice for your system.... If you can save your pennies, you should go for the new 250, as it is the least expensive Naim amp that uses the 07 transistor from the NAP-500, it really is worth the extra money. If you take the 250 home you will have trouble giving it back. I have Ninka's and a Classik-K in my bedroom, and it is my favorite purchase I have ever made. It sounds wonderful, it can wake me up in the morning. I sometimes listen to it more than my primary system. I have had no problems powering the Ninka's with the Classik. The Nait-5 is similar in output to the Classik, but has more headroom as it has a better powersupply, I would certainly audition the 200 & 250 at home because the Nait should do a good job with the Ninka's.

I have heard both. I have heard the Petite 3 against the Katan and Ninka directly, and the Critiques and Mystiques at other times. I very much like the Ninka and I also really liked the Katan, though room conditions weren't optimal for that demo. I preffered both to the NEAT Petite, as the Petite's were a bit boomy basswise with a peaky treble. The Katan and Ninka both timed great, but with the Katan being a tad bit quicker. I also thought both the Ninka and the Katan were quite accurate tonally.
However, both the Mystique and the Critique in my opinion, are more involving musically than the Ninka or Katan. They get you into the music more and have tighter and deeper bass. I think i preferred the Katan to the Ninka, but the Ninka definitely had more bass and a bigger sound. I now own Neat Mystiques which are breaking in.
