Mothership tracks compared against previous versions.

A comparison of the original vinyl vs Remasters CD vs Mothership CD versions played back at Abbey Road. Looks like vinyl wins out but interesting reading on why newer CDs are so loud ... it's the current fashion apparently.
Times Online - LZ MothershipI won't be bothering with Mothership as I've already got all the albums on vinyl AND CD AND digitally remastered CD in cardboard vinyl replica sleeves. However I probably will get a copy of new version of "The Song Remains the Same" on CD.
Still undecided on the DVD since I haven't picked a HiDef format yet (and won't until we have only one).
Cheers

I have all the Led Zeppelin albums on 1st/2nd issue vinyl release.
Nothing I have heard on either vinyl/CD has ever come close to those originals.
I think all the remasters in the past have been a step down in quality, so Mothership is not on my Christmas list

Thanks for that Scott. Think I'll give this one a miss and hope that the current fashoin for big volume passes.

I bought Mothership yesterday - the first Led Zep album I've ever bought.
It sounded good to me and LESS compressed than most modern CD's. To my ears it has a very analogue sound which is probably down to original recording equipment. There is definitely a certain character to the sound, the vocals being a bit thin and the drums rather dirty, but the guitars sound particularly realistic and vibrant.
I'd be happy if most modern CD's sounded as good as this!

Did Jimmy Page do the re-mastering?

Stewbie,
If Mothership sounds that bad, it just reinforces my opinion.
Just finished playing Led Zeppelin iii, didn't hear anything like you describe
I wouldn't describe Robert Plant's vocals thin on Since I've been Loving you.
John Bonham's drums definately not dirty in that blues triplet feel
