Complain to a German...

…...to a currently happy German, at least.

Anyone who cares about wine, or has visited this most beautiful of Germany'’s vineyard areas, needs to try and help stop the proposed construction of a new bridge over the river Mosel. Details here, here and pictures here, roll over the arrows for a before/after.

No Viaduc de Millau, this has all the architectural merits of a sixties shopping centre and the main/only beneficiary is an Irish budget airline which wants to make its fanciful description of Hahn airbase as being vaguely near Frankfurt something less of the absurdity that anyone trying to get to Frankfurt this way knows that it is.

Some of the world’'s greatest Riesling vineyards will be decimated forever. The level of damage to others (soil composition, shadows, construction damage, water table effects, traffic fumes etc) is unknown.

The locals do not want this bridge.

I'm not against progress, even at cost, but they have asked for worldwide support for their cause.

You can write to Angela Merkel (in English) here.

Please do!

Awaiting further information from friends living in the area then I will get Merkel in my crosshairs.
Having flown into Hahn and taken the bus from there to Frankfurt I do not remember this being a particularly taxing bus trip (between 1- 1 1/2 hours).
If appeasing Ryanair is the most important reason then that in itself would be reason enough to say no.
