Steve G do you think i'm going to waste post 500 on a crap fish song Big Grin

No this is more relative, the end of one of the greatest Rock n Roll venues ever. The venue is so embedded in some of my most loved bands particularly Patti Smith (Lenny Kaye wrote the piece), the Ramones, NY Dolls and many other iconic artists and groups. Never went there myself but what must it have been like in those early heady days. Would be good to hear from anyone who went there - Have you ever been Matt?

Diccus,

I saw Johnny Thunders play there in 1980 while having a few days R&R in NY. CBGB's has to be be one of the most seedy venues I have to have been to in my life, and I have been to a few! I seemed to be the only person in the club drinking beer, everyone else was off their tits on chemical substances of one sort or another. I am no prude, but I do remember being a little disturbed by the fact that I could not get into the gents for a piss because two lasses were in there jacking up.

Regards

I've been there a few times on my travels. I guess there is a parallel with the Marquee closing & re-locating a few years back. It is/was an iconic rock venue, & a shame to see it go.
Incidentally, a few of my mates play in Jon Otways "big band", & they really wanted to play cbgb's on their NY leg of the upcoming world tour (although my vote woud've been Radio City). They are now playing BB Kings club on broadway instead. Still not too shabby.
matt.

This Matt has been there as well. The Replacements back in the day and my brother's hobby band in the late 1990s. I was there once in 1979 and saw a couple of bands whose names are lost in the fog of time. Apparently they did not go on to the big time.

Regards
Matt

Well the big 500 are you now going to go the way of CBGB's? Do not go gentle into that dark night.

As for GBGB's:

"It is...is a million...years ago
I hear music...and it sounds like bells
I feel like my head is high
I wish...I could meet...every one
Meet them all over again
Bring them up to my room
Meet them all over again
Everyone's up in my room"

See if age has withered your reactions. You might want to reduce the wobble factor now you are a "senior member". Am I still allowed to talk to you, or are you now like a prefect at school?
