Santana - Abraxas - some advice please

Posted by: Happy Listener on 15 October 2009

I've got this on ordinary CD and early 1980's vinyl but want to treat myself to a hi-fi version (so to speak). CD/vinyl - not bothered.

Search has revealed some comments but I see that the MoFi vinyl has rec'd mixed feedback.

Have not come across blu-CDs etc.

Advice sought on which version to get and how please.

I think the MoFi vinyl isn't available direct in the UK until next year?

I have a 180 gm (MOFI?), bought as sealed and new, it sounds crap, muddy and distorted. I think others have the same opinion.
Whether there are other different versions I'm not sure.

I think there was an XFCD version.

Any of the 2 MOFI releases of it on cd should do you.

tried the Mofi gold CD - meh.

The Sundazed LP version released last year does it for me.

I have the original LP, and it sounds great. Don't know how much better you're going to do.

I can vouch for Ewen's excellent advice on this, and any other release for that matter.

I have a MOFI release and it's superb. I also had an early Japanese release but the MOFI has the edge.

I have an original vinyl and it smokes - I doubt it could be improved upon.

The new MOFI CD sounds good. Get one before they go OOP.
