On Saturday, one heck of a lineup, mother nature permitting:

Men's semis: Murray vs Nadal and
Federer vs. Djokovic

Women's final: S Williams vs. Jankovic

Enjoy !

I agree. The Federer/Nadal rivalry is great, they are fantastic players. I hope they both make it through.

The HD production isn't bad either... Winker

Murray wins the tiebreak ...

Murray up 2 sets to love !!

Thanks for the updates, Jeff. Rains have arrived, see y'all back here tomorrow. Some of my favorite threads are the ones where I am mostly alone, though I rarely agree with most of what I say. Winker PS, rain delay favors Nadal. Back to your regular programming.

Murray does it !! I will miss the final 'cause NBC will carry that one live at 1400 PDT on Monday and I will be at work. Y'all are in a better time zone for viewing. Enjoy! And somebody, please keep me posted Smile

I'll keep you posted Jeff.....although I couldn't watch today towards the end. Fabulous stuff from Murray who did to Nadal what Nadal normally does to others - mixed up the spin, outhit him and certainly out served him.

Cheers

Thanks, Jim.

My first time seeing Murray, he was impressive. Nadal certainly looked tired, not sure if that was all Murray or not. I am a Federer fan, so would like to see him take his 5th Open in a row, but now that Murray has a taste of later rounds in Slams, I expect to see him there more often (on likable surfaces) regardless of what happens tomorrow.

I'm taken Jankovic tonight, in two !

best regards

Wow, you were right, Jankovic lost in two - you are good!! Smile

BTW, don't underestimate Murray on any surface, he is not a one trick pony although hard courts are clearly his favorite surface. He is definitley growing into himself both physically and mentally....and he holds a lifetime 2-1 record over Federer with both wins coming on hard courts...interesting final tomorrow.

Cheers

Apparently, painlessly quick, today? Haven't seen the results but found something that seemed to indicate Federer up sets 2-0.

Well, it was Roger in 3 straight, confidence back, the next final against Nadal will be epic. When is the Australian ?

Jeff

Apparently it's only us who were interested in the Men's Final.....fabulous stuff from Roger and a sub par Murray......and the inevitable result from that combination.

I will refrain from the normal jingoistic Scottish approach and simply say that Murray (who may well yet win a few Majors) was simply out played today by a great champion.

I suspect we will see much more of Murray, this was all part of the learning and maturation process he must go through to know what he needs to do to reach the next level consistently. I think he will. Nice young man to cheer for as well, as are Nadal and Federer.

Never mind it was a good effort by Murray but clearly a step too far against a renewed Federer. I hope he does reach other finals and doesn't just fade away like Henman. It's a shame for him, though, that he inhabits the era of Nadal and Federer.

That's a pretty defeatist attitude I think. He out-thought and out-played Nadal in the semi's and he lost to an almost perfect Federer in the final. Bear in mind that Federer didn't win his first Grand Slam until he was 22 and that Murray is 21.....he has a lifetime 2-2 record against Federer so I wouldn't be so quick to write him off.

Having watched much of his play against Del Potro, Nadal and in glimpses against Roger, he clearly has the game to compete with the best. If he can raise his serve consistently to the level it was at against Nadal (and I believe he can) then he has nothing to fear from these guys on the faster courts. Nadal on clay though is probably unbeatable right now and since Wimbledon is now reduced to being clay on grass they may as well go the whole hog and switch surfaces....

Cheers

Fair enough Jim!

I just mean that think it's a shame for anyone to inhabit the era of Federer and Nadal

Not for me - I like watching both of them

If he had been around 10 years ago it would have been Sampras and 25 years ago Borg etc....there's always some legend at the top and Murray has the ambition and probably enough talent to get up there. He needs to gain consistency at the highest level as he has beaten Djokovic the last twice he has played him broekn his Nadal hoodoo (albeit in Nadal's worst surface) and is lifetime 2 - 2 vs Federer. I don't think jas the mentality to settle for being ranked 4th in the world.

I's rather have him be a grumpy World #1 rather than a pleasant and sunny World #4! Winker

To be honest tennis needs great players all at the top of their game and you then end up with the type of stuff uou got when McEnroe, Borg, Connors and Lendl were all up there around the same time.

Cheers
