J.River Media Center 15 now features 'event style' WASAPI
Posted by: Hot Rats on 16 September 2010
I have always preferred the interface of J.River Media Center to other applications. I'm not suggesting it is better, I just happen to prefer it.
Although it worked in WASAPI mode in my system (Asus Windows x64 laptopm, Naim DAC/Naim XPS, M2Tech Hiface), I experienced some stuttering on playback that could only be cured by stopping ans then restarting playback. I recorded a sample of this stuttering and posted it on the J.River Interact forum.
Thre response that my post received indicated that others using different hardware had also experienced this problem. Matt at J.River has worked tirelessly to resolve the problem. His work has included three new builds of the software for those of us with problems to try. The latest build of J.River Media Center incorporates a new and different WASAPI stage. I will not attempt describe 'event style' WASAPI as I lack the technical expertise to fully understand it. I am sure that Matt will be happy to respond to any questions through the 'Interact' forum. The latest build features 'event style' WASAP and to date, I have experienced to reoccurence of the stuttering problem.
The latest build of J.River Media Center can be downloaded from:

My original thread, for those who want to hear the stuttering that I experienced and track the progress up to resolution can read the thread at:

I am now a very happy J.River Media Center user and I particularly appreciate Matt's effort to get the original problem resolved and in so doing, bring about an overall improvement to the software through revision of the WASAPI engine. If you opt for the J.River application, you will get good backup after purchase. The application also sounds great when playing back a variety of musical genres in differing bitrates and sampling frequencies.
I would also like to note my thanks to Keith Cooper at Purite Audio (UK importer for M2Tech). He has also maintained close contact with the manufacturer of the Hiface and has been fully commited to helping me resolve the problem. Once again, a great example of after-sales support!
