I think I would go with a Napst if you don't have one already.

Then I would go with a HiCap, then consider the 250.

Thankyou guys for the advise,I have just bought the 102.I was originaly going to buy a 82 but was avised not to go that way..You are right funds are an issue I think I would like to spend no more than £1500 PLUS what I can get for the 140.
I hope to add depth and better clarity to the system,I also hope for better results when the volume is low as my wife bangs on at me about the noise,(women!!)sorry ladies!so can you give more advice?

Billyj,

There is a great of good advice here but the question is where do you want to get to? I would have thought that a 140 would be perfectly capable of driving a pair of 805's (not as well as a 250 or pair of 135's granted). You will find that getting your source components up to top notch will be the best thing to start with if you intend to move up the Naim hierarchy. If you don't intend to do this then you would take a different approach. A 250 or 135 really needs something of the calibre of the 82/Supercap to get the best out of them. Your 102/140 would really appreciate a better CD player and you may consider upgrading your LP12 if it is not up to top spec already. Source first is generally a good approach but you need to be careful that you don't restrict the capability of the source components too much if you are intending to stick with this systems for some time.

There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that a 72/hicap is terrific with a 250. To say that an 82 is the minimum is balderdash. I've never heard a 32/32.5, but I bet the 250 is a good partner to those as well.

Since the 102 is better than a 72 to most ears, it too should be terrific with a 250 - butnote that a PSU is essential with the 250, the 135s, or the 500.

You've got a number of ways to go with your setup. A PSU is critical to many of them. First off, try a hicap.

Enjoy.
