I
read it is now going to be a little easier from a manufacturers point of view to licence Bluray....
I cross all my fingers and toes that this may make it easier and more tempting for Naim AV to replace the DVD5 and bring us BD......No need for the scaler then !
What a black box that could be.....

A scaler is still necessary in a BD player in order to upscale DVDs ...

Hi SC....
I've read the link you provided. I Don't think that a company with the profile of Naim will be persuaded towards or away from manufacturing a bluray player by the changes mentioned in the link. The "common licensing" that is being mentioned will reduce the amount of legal steps to be undertaken in order to produce a bluray player. However, The reduction in cost is marginal when you consider the price of a reference disc player. If I was chinese and owned an electronics company called sizzling chicken noodles electronics Inc. with a grand capital of 25 US dollars then why not! Let's manufacture a bluray player that retails at 40 US$... In that context, the price of licensing would be more affordable and profitable.
