I have incredibly deleted most of my photos from Picasa (Google photo software) thinking they were on a separate drive. I had previously saved some of them to other external drives and dvd, but I think many of my recent ones are lost. Is there any way of retrieving them once deleted from recycle bin?
This never happened in the days of popping into the chemist and stating 'One day my Prints will come"
I will just go and bang my head against a wall now.

There are a few programmes out there even freeware ones that claim to do what you want.
One I spotted is File Recovery 4 from The Software Patch @ www dot softwarepatch dot com.
I have no experience of this or any other product.
After a similar prob I now have a 2nd drive on the PC and an external drive with auto backup.

I would try and avoid saving anything to the affected drive until you attempt to restore the files, as once you write over the space the files occupied you'll have almost certainly lost them.
I'm not sure how Windows uses swapspace, ie a dedicated contiguous area of drive, or random areas of drive, so it may even be best not to use the machine at all for fear of the files being overwritten.
Someone who knows more than i do about how this works may be able to provide more detail...
Good luck.
Phil
