Error message

I've just encountered my first error message -

System Services has encountered an error
Dac on output #1 unresponsive

This happened when I opened a high res download (from Linn - Mass in B Minor, 192kHz).

It seems to be playing, though. However, the HDX screen would not resume, so I had to shut down the HDX & DAC, then restart them. Problem solved. However, I now wonder why the problem even occurred in the first place. I thought we were able to play hi-res files.

Any ideas?

Your DAC was also not responding?

Has it happened only once or each time you play this file.

Hi Manu,

No, I think the DAC was responding - I could hear the music being played. There was just no screen available on the HDX other than the error message. The right side-bar choices were all dimmed & not responding.

I haven't tried playing that file again, but will do so and let you know what happens.

Although "in the same box" the Player and the screen of the HDX are actually two completely independent devices that talk to each other and pass data between each other as to what each other are doing.

If the HDX doesn't talk to the front panel within a certain amount of time then the front panel will assume that there is a problem and try to report a sensible error message based upon what it saw leading up to the lack of comms - in this case it looks like it has assumed (incorrectly as you were playing music at the time) that there was a DAC error.

Usually if the error persists over a reboot then there's an issue but if it clears it was just something transient...

Cheers

Phil
