Emperor's New Clothes?

Is it me or is the drive to plasma and LCD TVs a lot of style over content and quality?

My wife and I have just spent two weeks trying to get to grips with a 26" Sony Series TV and HDD/DVD recorder connected together via HDMI. It was returned on Saturday, with refund thank you Sony Centre Hereford, as unwatchable.

As I stood in the shop with all the in-store TVs playing the Scotland-Wales rugby match I still could not believe my eyes as too the poor quality of the images. My old B&O CRT TV leaves them all trailing for picture quality.

Is it me? I hope so for all the happy punters out there.

Comments?

And it gets worse...

I will never subscribe to something I already pay for, TV licence, so it looks like I will be SD forever. Unless someone senior slaps the planks at OFCOM and ensures that the appropriate bandwidth is made available for freeview HD and not more bloody mobile phone services that do very little.

Jono - Good job you are not the "wrong side of the hill" reception wise other wise you would need to pay extra for sensible reception.

I've been thinking of shifting old CRT up into my study and am facing problem about what to replace it with for living room - will be fed by NVi to watch dvd's (see below re projector) but mainly used for general family/child viewing, so some feed from video player and freeview digibox.

I will be getting a projector either this year or maybe next (new house currently being built so might need to defer due to funding contsraints!) so am considering just getting a crt. Would also be helpful if relatively small so that it doesn't block view of garden (only place for it to go is in front of window and in trouble with wife for that, oops!) - currently in rented with brother in law's 42inch plasma that is far too tall! Is that sensible?

Living in...

CRT still has the better picture with SD transmissions for my money, but find to a new one will be tough.

For something same and very nice to look at try these guys for a Beovision 1, second hand B and O.
