nfl

i don't see any discussion of real football, that is, nfl, on this forum. is that because you fellows think one has to be a retarded child molester to be a fan of real football, or is there some other reason (i.e., you don't wish to support rupert murdoch, you support terrorists, and are against western civilization), or ?? why can't a fellow watch nfl AND have a nait? i don't have to remind you boys in the know who owns your beloved manchester united .... and i assume he's doing a good job of running it into the ground, just as he did w/ the bucs.

NFL is like rugby with padding so the big soft American big girl's blouses don't get hurt. It is boring.

The sporting activity in UK which has the largest participating following is fishing. Fishermen far outnumber the people who actually go to football matches, and by that I mean Association Football. I doubt if most Britsih people know the rules of American Football. Rugby Football is the least boring form...

Hell Acad, you're such an arrogant, unprincipled scumbag...

I used to think American Football was boring - but I learned a bit more about it when I lived in a flat that had cable TV. It seems it is very tactical - and offensive team (?) players have to memorise something like 30 set plays before each game.
Also, while they wear padding in American Football, my understanding is that anything goes as far as tackling is concerned - whereas in Rugby Union and League there are many restrictions on tackling. I understand that Rugby League players usually wear padding these days too.
And depite the amount of body armour worn by NFL players they still suffer some pretty damn disabling injuries in the course of their careers.
All said though, I wouldn't want to sit through a live broadcast of an NFL game - takes bloody ages.

I love my footie, used to play rugby and still watch it occasionally, have done quite a bit of sea fishing (with a tad of course thrown in for good measure) and also followed the Green Bay Packers since the mid seventies - think that covers most of them then.

Hi fidelio
A quick question why is it called football when 90% of the time they throw the ball.
It should be called American Throwball and the Super Throwbowl
Also the season lasts for about 5 months seems a bit short our real Football last 10 months and is really exciting with who goes up and down as well as who will win the Premiership.
Com'on the Arsenal...

If fishing is a sport why don't the fish ever win?

Note to everyone -
This footage is 100% Rugby League, you will not find hits like this in Rugby Union.

A friend of my family spent a small fortune on a launch (replete with Volvo Penta) that he kept in the Bay of Islands. He fished for big game fish there for twenty years and never got even a strike. The fish definitely won in that contest....
These days he angles for small game fish on two-pound line.

Deane,
No self respecting European rugby player would wear padding much less body armour and helmet such as the Americans do. The exception being the scrum cap which hardly compares to an NFL football helmet. NFL is about 10 seconds of chaos and mayhem followed by 10 minutes of inactivity while spectators are bombarded with advertising. We had a chap at school who was allowed to wear some padding but he had Haemophilia
No other country* in the world plays American football because it is silly and boring.
*dont bother listing the fact that there are a few teams dotted around the globe you know what I mean.

Aint that the truth. No flow to the game at all. I've really tried, but much prefer Aussie "No" Rules.

The big hits in rugby league are not worth the downsides of - stopping the game after a tackle, no line outs, no proper scrums. Those great League players ought to transfer to the Union - then we'd see some games.

NFL bores me to tears. Worse than baseball, but both pale in comparison to watching GOLF!
I'll take the kids to a baseball game once a year or so, it is a nice diversion. But I will not watch it on TV under any circumstances.
Rugby seems barbaric, surprised you're interested, acad.
To each his own, for certain.

Rugby Union is not barbaric its just a way for the upper classes in Europe to let off steam and then claim its the thinking man's footie, alright
. I played it for 3 seasons at school (at Number 8), its a great sport to play it looks rougher on telly.

Well, they've got Americas Cup yachting on TV at the moment.
Now that is tedious. Even Association Football is more interesting to watch.
I remember when Billy Connelly was visiting NZ when the Cup was being raced for here. A TV journo asked him what he thought about it. His reply, Ah, it's just fucking rich people being boring, isn't it?"

Completely the opposite here when I was growing up. The ponces and the snobs played soccer.

and i played american football in high school, can't recall what your equivalent is. and i was brought to see usc and l.a. rams games growing up, very serious (at least the usc). i think it just comes down to what you did as a kid -- no escaping that. i have an english friend who has some screwy cable package where he wakes up in the middle of the night to watch soccer. i've watched a couple of games w/ him -- and i found them drearily dull (but not as boring as basketball, now there's boredom incarnate), just like you guys feel about nfl i guess.
btw, someone (perhaps a cad) stated american football is not played elsewhere. incorrect - canada has a full scale league, 'tho the rules vary slightly. perhaps only north americans have the requisite coordination to throw, all the wankers have to kick ....

You have the temerity to pour scorn on American Football whilst inducing a 20 year sleep with your thrilling, adrenaline inducing exploits on the chess board in another thread?

Just trolling a little as well.

hhmmm. chess .... now there's a wanker's pursuit if there ever was one. i recently read a study stating that less than 10% of nfl players know the rules. knight to rook 5, en garde you queen.

another "watching paint dry" sport. how can one designate nfl football as boring and sit through nine innings of baseball?? and you don't know despair until you have been a boston red sox fan (i went to school back there) - although they did go all the way a couple years back, so allegedly babe ruth's curse has lifted (not sure, though, since damon went over to the other side).
