Anybody had or heard of any problems with paypal going awry. I heard a rumour that they featured on watchdog program. I am now unsure of divulging bank details for my ebay transactions

The only issues on Watchdog was a number of people pissed that they had their accounts suspended.

Considering the usefullness of it, I won't stop until something goes wrong haha.

I have received well over £5,000 via paypal without a hitch, and pay for eBay purchases with it as well. It's a great system.

The biggest reason I've found for people not wanting to use it is because of the amount of the sale lost to fees.

I like the system, though, because it enables me to keep funds generated by sales separate from household money (less chance of being swallowed up).

I have also transferred money into my bank with no problems, although it does take a while to arrive.

Does anyone know what happens when a supplier refunds you?

I bought a record off a chap that said it has just sold so he refunded me immediately but the refunds held in some hold state or something. Will I have to pay a commission to get my money out of paypal?

I received a refund once on a bum pair of skis and it showed up essentially immediately on my credit card. I don't often use a credit card, but that worked out just fine. You should net out exactly the amount shown in the Paypal summary; the commission only applies to the front end.

I'm currently being ripped off by an Ebay trader (Popsalute) and neither paypal nor Ebay could give a fat rat about it as it's past the 45 day period. They give no protection if you pre-order and it goes wrong. Not good enough.

Thanks Norman.

Sorry to hear that Tom.

I got caught out by the 45 day thing, too. I received continual assurances from the trader that the goods had been sent and that the courier had mislaid them.

I am sure Naim would just love the possible litigation that could ensue from such a scheme!
