Tough call. Siren or For Your Pleasure. Probably the former.
I saw them all stupidly cheap at Fopp not so long ago

My most played - Avalon
My most emotionally affecting - Country life

Didn't know there was one - the ones with Brian Eno on are OK - could never get past the dreadful vocals.

The first two are superb, particularly the first, which is in my opinion a genuinely important album. The first time I heard it, shortly after its release, I was knocked out as it was like nothing I'd ever heard before. The rest are generally worth having but I find them progressively less interesting as they move from being an innovative original outfit to a vehicle for Ferry the lounge lizard.

For Your Pleasure is their best but Roxy Music 1st LP, Stranded, country Life & Siren are all very good also.

After they reformed they were not really the same more of a backing band for Ferry imo.

Early albums are better IMO.

I've already spoke to Mr Terry "Nakamichi CR7" Franks (or Naka for short) on the phone but I'll repeat it here...

Early albums more Glam Rock/Art Rock later albums more Soulful/Poppy and I like both ends of the spectrum and Bryan Ferry's voice is fantastic so I haven't a clue what ROTF is talking but thats goes for most of the time anyway. Also Brian Eno left after the first album.

Playing this one at the moment which is great.

"Also Brian Eno left after the first album"

so who is that geezer who looks and sounds like Eno on the second album? Blank Frank?

Eddie Jobson - remember seeing him with shortlived supergroup 'UK' (Jobson, Wetton, Bruford, Holdsworth)

Brian Eno is credited on the first 2 albums, Eddie Jobson from Stranded onwards.Source AMG.

Roxy Music, For your Pleasure, and Viva Roxy Music [Live]. The soud is quite good IMHO.

All of them up to and including Flesh & Blood.

Siren is possibly my all time favourite by them though.

The first one's might be considered a little "whacky" by some people's standards which is probably why I loved them so much at the time of their release.

Songs like "Virgnia Plain" and "Pyjamarama" were just so different - and still are - coupled with Ferry's unique vocal style, I can understand why some people may not get on with the songs or the vocals.

However, I love 'em Big Grin

As a massive Roxy fan I'm definately in the "everything after Siren was pretty naff" canp I'm afraid ...all the groundbreaking left field experimentalism of the early albums was forgotten in the pursuit of bland out lounge core......but those early albums were cool in every sense of the word.

First album essential. Second album very good. Third album good. Then have nothing to do with them after that.
