Rolling Stone Top 100

I've got 50 of the list but to be honest, apart from the 2 Springsteen albums, Sigur Ros and maybe Kings of Leon, the rest of the albums I have in this list are far from the favourites in my collection. I think although I quite like some of the albums from this past decade, they do not bring out the emotional for me of albums from the seventies and other decades.

I find it hard to diagree with Kid A at number one (in the limited context of the music styles this list covers), but I lot of the others I own are not actual favourites of mine per se. Nevertheless I would say that they have fairly high rotation. I guess this means my tastes are a bit mainstream.

I do need to give Kid A a bit more rotation time than it has had. Seems to be getting to the top of many lists.

What a bland list, everything Radiohead have released and almost the same for Coldplay, and a lot of old stadium rock acts.
One token metal album, and nothing elecronic (dance) at all.
This decade has been better than that, well maybe.

Agree. Very limited definition of what constitutes "music". What can you expect from a magazine that features numerous articles on the Jonas Bros as if they were significant, actual, real musicians?
Having said that, I'm a huge Radiohead fan, so wasn't too disappointed to see them feature.

One for me...but I have bought more than a few albums from the decade...I must not be mainstream enough for RS.

Rather a dull list I think. All those U2 albums! Albums of the Decade-I think not. The best of these 'Decade Lists' have generated a number of names or albums that have been new to me which I've wanted to investigat This one does not do that.
Good to see Wilco YHF near the top, also Antony + The Johnsons and Yo La Tengo appearing. Leonard Cohen 10 New Songs is another personal favourite.
I got 22 however most from the lower reaches.

OK a narrow definition of music, but at least one where there has been some inventiveness, and also some obligatory energy. Also a genre that the mainstream music magazines would not dare to admit to listening to, in their prejudice.
Kerrang - 1982-2008 top 20s (mostly)
Just picking from the top few on each of the years listed there, I am thankful to have as many albums from the lists for this decade on Kerrang as I do from Rolling Stone.
If you want to overdose on top album of the year lists, here is a link to an awful lot:
http://www.rocklistmusic.co.uk
Although Mixmag have nothing listed for 2001-2005, their lists have some interesting entries, although they do seen to include every dance album released in any year anyway.
http://www.rocklistmusic.co.uk/mixmag.html
I can understand why 'Kid A' heads a lot of lists, it is a very good album, and a brave album at the time. Most of the lists I have seen are too orientated to a safe centre of popular rock, and shy away from anything even slightly removed from that.
I wonder if an album like Jay-Z 'The Black album' is capable of getting in lists for music biased towards rock, that if by crossing that boundary, it is possibly more of a key album than many of the safe choices in the rock lists.

some good stuff on the list but I tend to agree on the 'blandness' tag. Can't be bushed to count how many I have or haven't got

No Nick Cave.
Never noticed that. Nick deserves a few albums at least.

oh well!
I thought Kid A was the name of a band until I looked at the list.

I have 115 records that came out in this period (2000 - 2009) and NONE of them are on this list.

...The nature of these lists means we are never going to agree on what should be on them ...RS's list is rather mainstream which can be an anethama to those posters on sites such as this one who revel in championing obscure artists ..
..but there is a place for a mainstream music list and I've seen worse .....but no Nick Cave "Dig! Lazurus Dig!? ....ridiculous!!!

Which two?

50 for me but like Adrian I may own 50 of them but they are far from my personal top 100.
Posted on: 14 December 2009 by Officer DBL
Well I own 22 of the albums on the list, but that doesn't mean to say that I like them all. Some have been impulse buys.
As Jamie comments, the decade has seen better...
