HDX/UnitiServe file structure ?

Guys,

When using NAS with either of these products (the hard drive-less versions), is there a specific requirement for the way the music is strored. Do they use a windows formatted disk and just a series of folders.

I am considering going the DAC route but intially would probbaly front everything with a cheaper solution and then move to a Naim server when funds allow. I would like to know form the outset how best to store music and if it would be easy to traspose/prepare if I ever got an HDX or unitiserve.

Also the other question I had was the HDX ripping. Does it connect to the internet to automatically add album art. And if you add tracks manually onto the database (not from ripping) does the HDX just see them and add them ?

thx

Make a share on your NAS with Artist/Album Title folder structure. If you rip your files in FLAC/MP3, then the HDX will pick up the ID tag data, e.g. cover art. If stored as WAV etc, then try putting the cover art as a file called folder.jpg in the same folder.

The HDX created Music Stores are slightly different, in that ripped CDs go to a folder called MQ, compressed files to LQ and hi-res to, you guessed it HQ.

If the share is added to the HDX list, then the music will appear transparently with all your other music, whether it's ripped by the HDX or anything else. So several shares, no matter where they are on the network, will simply look like one music collection. It's a nice feature.

Errant cover art can be manually added from the Desktop Client software.

Yes, when you rip CDs using the HDX, it connects to the internet and checks AMG first, and if unsuccessful, FreeDB and then its own on-board database.
If it fails to find what you're looking for, you can tidy up afterwards with the DTC
