Which vacuum...

Anything but Dyson would be my advice. Clever designs, but they fall apart as soon as you look at them.

Miele build theirs to last.

There's only one vacuum cleaner worth buying and it's a Kirby. All others are crap.

I wouldn't buy one from the reps, get one on Ebay. They're not cheap, but will last for 25 years or more.

The current model is the Diamond Edition, then G7, then G6, G5, etc.....

There is only 1 cleaner worth getting (ok maybe 2, never had a kirby)& its a SEBO.I've had 2 dysons. Bought the 2nd one 'cos I couldn't believe it could be as bad as the 1st one I had. I was wrong. It was worse. Build quality courtesy of airfix kits.
Blokes spending too much time talking about vacuuming is a bit sad, but get a sebo,(or a kirby,maybe) you won't regret it.

I have a Miele Solution Hepa 2000. An outstanding performer which is not only extremely well made but also well equipped. I got various brushheads (including a full sized turbo brush plus a mini turbo brush) and various cleaning attachments.

It is also very quiet which you will appreciate if, like me, you hate noisy appliances.

Stewart - the Miele sounds good but I do like my standy-uppy type.

Matt - which Sebo did you get? - was looking at the X5 Extra.

Dyson are pure shit, Sebo is the one you need - they are brilliant, reliable and come to pieces easy, you can buy service kits for them which are a doddle to fit. We have this one

We had all this animosity about Dysons around a year ago. As someone with a serious dust mite allergy I recommend the Dyson (particularly with a HEPA filter). I have the original and the new ball version. The latter cleans better than anything I have ever used (including Henry's) but it is noisy.

Two days ago a vacuumed the house completely with an Electrolux that's about 5 years old. I've just done it again with our brand new, straight-out-of the box Dyson and the cylinder is already half full of fine dust particles.

My old Dears are onto their second Dyson (only because they didn't realise that Dyson's servicing is pretty much like that of Naim, and ended up getting the first one repaired before eventually giving it away.)

Before that they had a Kirby - now that was an overpriced piece of shit (imho.)

PS: Edited to add - it wasn't an Electrolux, it was a Morphy Richards that looks pretty much the same as an Electrolux. It boasts having 1500 watts. What is it about these meaningless power ratings?

Hi royal blue. We have the k3 premium model. It has a powered head, which we both find great, + the roller brush is designed to be easily removed to facilitate cleaning of it, which is great when you have a hairy dog, & 2 long haired people in the house. It is also one of the best as far as all that hepa/hypo allergenic dust filter stuff is concerned. + its cheaper than a lot of others out there. Get one, you won't regret it.

Kirby Reps are the best. "Hang on mate, i'll just speak to the boss and see what deal i can do for you." Do they have to speak to the boss when they need to take a leak as well? Surprised they don't bring round there own scalding cup of tea/coffee to keep you there for the 10 mins they need to get the sales chat working. Worst salepeople in the world. Ever.

Well when I was a knieve mid 20's bachelor I fell for the Kirby spiel and parted with 1k of my hard earned reddies
I still have the thing now 10 years old and still works fine and still out does most modern hoovers, my wife hates it so I think thats even more reason to keep it. ha
I would defo recommend one, loads on ebay as usual.

I now only have one recommendation.

As usual its not cheap but it is a super super machine and its doing sterling service as we speak.

Its a Sebo felix, do a search, we have the orange one. It has what would appear to be a small motor, however read carefully and you will find it uses a suction motor like most other vacs, but it has a separate motor for the brushes, which most others do not. This makes a significant difference, infact I will bet you love this machine should you purchase one.

It's going to be a Sebo, just need to decide between the X4 Extra (£195) or the Felix (£206) - decisions!

I don't know about the other sebo, but the felix has a fantastic head it will go left right sort of thing like them new Dysons who are claiming they have an exclusive. The head can also be replaced with the one specially for laminates, it came with the package with us.

One other thing is its the quietest vac I have owned. I honestly can't think of any downers with this one.

I bought a Henry vacuum cleaner in 1984 when I was sharing a house with my brother. It works very well now as it always did. Not expensive, the main thing is that it has a poweful motor, and a robust design, so I can't think why anyone would want to spend more on fiddly sophistication. Also it is British-made, which may weigh in the choice for some UK resident members.
