What would you have done?

Whilst looking at a concert review Mrs Bigh made I spotted this review.

"Extremely disappointing show, where we were sitting we were unable to understand anything sung or said by Tift Merritt and it did not improve very much when Mary Chapin Carpenter came on.
That said not helped by the drunken gentleman next to us talking and drinking from cans of beer taken from his rucksack
Left theatre with nearly an hour to go."

OK I'm prepared to believe they didn't like the show, but I interpret their actions as a result of the drunk guy.

I certainly would have reported the guy to a member of staff.
There is enough bloody talking and walking about, and excessive noise should be reported IMO.
Almost certainly his actions re drinking would be against the license of the venue.

Any views ?

I would have complained, irrespective of the show. Mind you I do remember being at a Lyle Lovett concert at the Barbican and someone near to me asking the man in front of them wearing the tall cowboy hat if he could remove it being met with steely glances and then ignored.

Recently I was at a magic theatre show at the QEH where the man in front, sitting with his family, had a thin briefcase upright under his arm on the arm of the seat. Inside the briefcase was a recording camera. I could see the recording light and he checked it at intervals and turned it off at the intermission and then started it again. I told the staff that the man was recording the show and although very concerned did nothing. At the end I pointed out to him that that was a terrible thing to do as the performers made a living out of doing the show on the stage for us the audience. He sheepishly filed out quickly then having left the auditorium returned to berate me, now without his bag, and tell me to mind my own business very loudly.

and the answer is...............? It is a shame but it seems to be the way people so often behave now, without respect for others.

feeling and sounding like a grumpy old man!

A drunken guy could never spoil my concert experience ... oh, wait a minute, did these guys talk about me. Red Face

Have only had a couple of experiences where drunk/rude/loud people made a concert temporarily unpleasant.

In both cases, the Mrs. and I simply found an usher and asked for help in finding other seats. And both times they were very understanding and very accommodating.

I agree, most concerts or the cinema when I go there is always someone who is ruining it for others. I find that management, ushers or whatever usually do not have any people skills or power to do anything about this and complaining seems to be made on deaf ears.
