Alias the cosmic buffoon.

Favourite cuts in no particular order.

Initiation (from Initiation)
It wouldn't have made any Difference (from Something/Anything)
Shalalalala means (I love you) (from A Wizard/A true Star)

And probably most satisfying album 'Back to the Bars' which is a live recording and is kind of the Best of Todd up to 1978. In fact there's more individual cuts that I like but I can't drag the names from the depths of the old grey matter.

He went through that golden run from "A Wizard, A True Star", "Todd", "Something/Anything", "Initiation" and then "Hermit Of Mink Hollow", though each album tended to have it's low moments.

If only a) he'd exercised some greater self-restraint and released just one or two fewer albums and kept the consistency higher and b) hadn't used so much wretched compression when recording them (they all tend to be quite long, from memory esp. Initiation).

Oh, and don't forget "Open My Eyes" from his Nazz days.

The Utopia stuff was even more uneven - it was a very democratic band, so everyone had their slot, regardless of how good it was.

Yes, that's Todd, from sublime to embarrassing, I agree you just wish that he'd had somebody to slap him once in a while.

I listened, or rather started to Listen, to Initiation on vinyl the other day, I have a copy in nice condition, but compared with a mid 80s Rhino/Bearsville CD it's sounds like an advert for the superiority of CD. yeccch, CD sounds OK tho'.

another one for the list. 'The verb to Love', I think that's what it's called.
