What music makes you really happy?

Growing up in New Orleans is a town where you always here music if you are out and about, even if only for a few blocks, or at least that's the way I remember it.

If lyrics move you, just forget New Orleans music, any words will do. It's not unusual to hear four rhythms going at the same time, and some of the melody is touching. The emotions expressed are always in the moment, and very basic to life.

Jon Cleary does it all, every local style I can think of, from the lounge to the street, from the 20s to today.

And the Bach just makes me happy because Bach has made it so, he made it to make me happy.

Carried on the wings of perfection, that is a message I can not resist.

I've always found Charles & Eddie's album (- was it Duophonic?) makes me feel great! Here's one of the tracks:

I keep coming back to either of the Vampire Weekend albums for a good lift. Billy Bragg records often make me smile.

Tommy Chase Quartet 'Groove Merchant'. A really fun jazz album that just makes you want to dance.

Listening to greatest singer I've ever heard makes me happy and that she no longer sings makes me sad - Shirley had the perfect singing voice. There is no singer I'd sooner listen too.

Orbital 'The Girl with the Sun in Her Head'
It has a long intro, about a minute, that is quite dark, but it then builds into a track that just makes me think of summer, after four or five minutes it is really exhilarating. Live it is/was a real highlight of their shows.

Nope, I can't think of a better hobby! I do enjoy listening to music a lot, that's a fact. But music itself rarely makes me feel "happy". I feel many things while listening to music, but happiness is not on top of the list Smile
