Steely Dan vinyl availability?
Posted by: Chris M on 15 April 2005
Dear all,
can anyone tell me about the current situation with regard to availability of new Steely Dan vinyl? I have managed to buy "Everything Must Go". Are "Gaucho","Two Against the World" or any of the 70s records readily available? Also, I noticed that most of the seventies back catalogue are available as "remastered" CDs, are these worth buying? IMO the remastering industry reaps varied rewards. However knowing the nature of the group in question, if they were involved in the remastering process, the result would probably be worthwhile, is this the case?
yours, Chris M.

Chris.
Your post spurred me on today to pop down to the harbour (thers a good, but on occasions , expensive) 2nd hand record shop.
I picked up "cant by a thril" for £3.50 and its flawless. What production for 1972 the tinkly bits on the end of "turn that heartbeat" are fantasitc. Play this and you smile all the way to your next LP12 upgrade

Also got moondance for £3.00 by luck flawless again as my last copy looked mint but had terrible end of side distortion

Dear all,
Thanks for the info,
Man Machine, thanks for the useful links;again have you any experience of the remastered material available? does it in any way improve on the original recordings, or is it just
cynical repackaging for obssesive completists?
Fled, I think that Brixham must have got lost in a fold of the space/time continuum!,
Nottingham's charity shops get a serious hammering from record collectors (admittedly they all seem to be into early Punk!) , there would be no chance of picking up the kind of bargain that has just come your way!
Thanks again, Chris M

Chris.
So you know Brixham then

Believe it or not it isnt a charity shop, its a real record shop (2nd hand only) he buys job lots, doenst clean them or grade them just adds a few quid and moves them on, so if your carfull you can get a bargin, however some/most of the stuff is fit only for the bin (or rega TT

)
