Panasonic Blu ray to a 282

Posted by: Rocketman on 17 December 2008

I want to use my existing set up (282/250 FB1's)to boost the sound from my Panasonic blu ray. Can anyone on the forum tell me how to connect the set up? Are there any problems with doing this?

Rocketman,

That is precisely what I do. I currently have a Panasonic Blu Ray and a 282 (although Im upgrading this to a 252 soon). You can simply connect through a long phono cable directly out of your Panasonic into the AUX2 iput on your 282.

I actually output less directly myself and go from the plasma trusting that the Blu Ray's HDMI cable preserves a lot of the quality. This gives me much more engaging TV as well.

I must say something, though. There is sometimes a delay between the mouth on screen and the sound out the speakers.

Perhaps thats because I go from Blu Ray to TV via HDMI then TV to 282 to 300 to speakers......

All the best!

I had a 20m cable made up by Flashback some time ago to connect my old Sony DVD player to my 282. I now use it for my Pioneer BDP LX71. I wouldn't use a cable that length for serious music listening but it works fine for movies. I can't say I've ever noticed any sound delay.

Thanks, guys.

I want it to be just a 2 channel system.

With HDMI to TV directly form the Panasonic BD35 and then phono to din direct from the audio out of the BD35 to the 282 respectively - will this work?

If you get hum - this will be caused by the earthing arrangements of the AV section of the combined system.

You may not but, if you do, solutions exist.

That's exactly the arrangement I have and it works perfectly. Even with a 20m cable it sounds incredible.

The only downside is that you will not be getting the high resolution audio from the RCA/Phono outs on this deck. IMHO the Hi res audio is one of the main benefits of the blu ray format. I have the BD 10 which is probably not as good a player as yours but it does have the capability to pass the high res audio through analog outs in the back. Mind you, I use a 5.1 receiver to handle this - but I do listen to hi res stereo dvd audio discs through my NAC 82 and it sounds pretty nice! But I am sure it will sound just fine in your configuration.

Rocketman,

I have just rigged my Sony S350 to my 252 via a Chord RCA-DIN cable. The sound produced is fine and full. The Sony has a 15m HDMI running to a projector and the Chord is about 1m long. No sound sync problems. If I don't use the projector I also have a 1m HDMI from the Sony to the TV. Using the TV, the sound still comes through my 252.

You may need to go into your settings of your disc player and set the audio to 2ch to optimise the audio output. Also, if you can, cancel the audio output running through the HDMI. That is, the HDMI supplies video only. I'm pretty sure the panasonic machines let you do all this.

But of course you will only get stereo so if you want the full benefit of 5.1 say you will have to include an AV processor and buy more speakers get extra speaker cable etc as part of your overall system. Personally I am not interested in that. I just wanted a good stereo output and a very big screen!
