son of SBL setup - it's: SBL Pack-Up!
Posted by: Rico on 03 September 2001
We've seen and contributed to SBL setup threads.
I am now faced with packing up my SBL's. I have a spanking new pair of SBL boxes - I've just never packed a pair before. Any hints?
Rico - ok, the Kans are sorted, now how to pack my SBL's?
Allan
Thanks to Mark Ragget at Naim, and also to "non-ferrous Larry" at Audio Works for providing me expert phone assistance, and clearing my confusion.
The SBL cartons certainly are costly if purchased serarately - but they are admirable in their effectiveness. Initially confusing for a first-timer (there are four foam parts, three cardboard parts, the cardboard+foam base pallett, three plastic bags, and two bubble-wrap sleeves, as well as the main box proper), it all goes together nicely.
Note - PXO's are packed separately. Basically you disassemble the speaker, take one of the foam halves, and bag/place each item into the foam half from the tweeter box down - it all becomes apparent as you work through it. Once completed, the other half is placed on top. There's even a cool stepped cardboard sleeve that houses the two foam grilles - cool! Then requires two people to slide the assembly into the box. What could be more simple than that?

Do you bathe in, or just gargle acid?

Bosh: Mine are moving Friday thanks for the posting, was the silicon problematic to split? A bit worried as bathrooom silicon sticks like hell.
Mine (he says proudly), split apart nicely, as I took care to smear liberal amounts of Fairy liquid dishwash on both mating surfaces before applying the silicone. Peels off easily - YMMV. Where it isn't on 'fairy', it's a real bi*£h to remove.
This was the case with the first pair of SBL's I set up for a friend - took a good hour to remove all of the old stuff. Good luck!

Great! When my dealer came to install my SBLs I had already read the instructions manual and told him about the Fairy. He told me this wasn't necessary! Luckily I managed to intervene and put a bit of Fairy on the foam part, but unfortunately not on the middle box. No plans to move yet, but I'll know what awaits me.
Ciao!
